In this exercise you have to use the correct possessive adjective.

Remember that in French, possessive adjectives are not affected by the speaker’s gender but they have to agree with the gender and number of the possessed noun.

In this case the subject, the speaker is “je” and the person that is possessed is “grand-mère”, singular feminine noun. The correct possessive adjective is therefore: **ma**

Ma grand-mère …

In this case the subject is “vous” and the possessed noun is “fille”, singular feminine noun. The correct possessive adjective is **votre**.

The owners in this case are Léa and Zoé, “elles”, and the possessed noun is their “mère”, singular feminine noun. We’ll put the possessive adjective **leur** that is used for both masculine and feminine nouns in the singular.

For example, if the subjects were Pascal and Francis, we would also use **leur mère**, and if the possessed noun were “père” it would be “leur père” as well, as long as the noun is in singular.

**Leurs** is used for both masculine and feminine nouns BUT in the plural, regardless of the owner’s gender, for ex.: *Léa et Zoé ont les yeux bleus, mais **leurs parents** ont les yeux noirs* or *Pascal et Francis ont les yeux bleus, mais **leurs parents** ont les yeux noirs*.

The subject is “tu”, the possessed noun is “beau-frère”, masculine singular, the correct adjective is therefore **ton.**

In this case the subject is “nous”, plural, and the possessed noun is “cousins”, plural as well. The correct adjective will therefore be **nos** that is used for both genders in the plural, for ex.: **nos cousins** et **nos cousines**.
