Psychometric Tests

The Psychometric tests have proved helpful in rediscovering myself in terms of my skills, reasoning, mental capacity in making judgments as well as my behavior on diverse scale of situations (MOUTAFI, 2007). I completed four tests namely Verbal and Numerical Reasoning Tests; MBTI (Myers-Briggs short version, based on Jung Typology); SHL Free Personality Questionnaire (competency based) and Prospects Planner. The aforementioned tests had specific significance through the results in giving an overall picture of me in terms of my strengths and weaknesses. SHL Free Personality Questionnaire (competency based) assisted me in finding my potential competencies that can be a yardstick in my workplace as well as identifying a suitable career for me (Xmarks.com, 2016). Moreover, I completed Prospects Planner test because it provides an indicator of my skills and matched jobs as well as what I can do to make the workplace worthwhile by matching the appropriate skills with my job (Anon, 2016).

Key Results From the Tests

The results from the tests were interesting as some confirmed to what I earlier on believed I am while others disapproved my knowledge about myself. Some of my key results from the four tests included the ENT

personality style, a comprehensive universal competency framework (UCF) about me in terms of my strengths and weaknesses, a list of matched occupations in terms of my skills and my numerical reasoning score. From the four psychometric tests that I selected there are diverse key learning points that I can gather about what I need to polish to make myself better (BARRETT, 2011). The ENTJ personality style from the Humanistic Jung Typology Test indicated that am an extrovert to a slight extent, intuitive, thoughtful and slightly judging (Anon, 2016). I also learnt that analyzing is my greatest weakness from the SHL Universal competency Framework that evokes me to redefine that and perhaps do something to improve my analytical skills so that I can add something to my portfolio of skills.

Nonetheless from the SHL competency framework I learnt my strengths as being decisive, supportive, cooperative, creative, innovative, a good manager and adventurous. Based on the Prospects Planner results, my skills could be matched to ten occupations namely transport planner, charity fundraiser, production manager, television/film/video producer, public affairs consultant, health and safety adviser, logistics and distribution manager, passenger transport manager and equality and diversity officer (Anon, 2016). Additionally, from the verbal and numerical test I learnt that am slightly below the peer average of a score of 45% compared to a peer average of 60% score with percentage increase, Graphs and Data interpretation and Data table interpretation as my key strengths (Practice Aptitude Tests | FREE Online Aptitude Tests, 2014). I found ratios and proportions as my weakness because I had zero scores on them with percentage decrease, percentage change and Graphs interpretation as areas of potential scope

for development.

Audit of Skills

Extensive analysis of one’s skills in terms of the strengths and those that one needs to work on is important towards the development of a person to being an all round individual. After carrying out an audit of skills based on the four tests I completed I came up with my top 3 skills that I prioritize for my development as being, analytical skills, persuasive skills and collective decision-making skills. I chose these three as my top skills of priority for my development because they are the major skills that I had weaknesses across the four tests (Xmarks.com, 2016). I will improve my analytical skills by being more observant, giving attention to details and relating things and making informed conclusions. I will develop my persuasive skills by more confident during presentations, using mirroring technique, doing in-depth research prior to presentations (MOUTAFI, 2007). Additionally, I will develop my collective decision-making skills by respecting other people’s opinions, giving attention to every opinion or suggestion and involving all the concerned parties in making the group decision.

Personal SWOT analysis

From my personal SWOT analysis, there are a number of key issues arising for me that keeps me thinking of my capability in facing the graduate labor market. Some of the key lessons arising from my personal SWOT analysis include strengths slightly outweighing my weaknesses, the opportunities and threats are significantly low in number (Xmarks.com, 2016). From the combination of my Strengths and the available Opportunities I feel am well placed to face the graduate labor market since I can be able to overcome the existing threats despite my significant high number of Weaknesses (RAMPERSAD, 2009). I am

endeavored towards an evaluation plan where I look forward to prioritizing my strengths as well as weaknesses, in doing so I will be able to keep track of my strengths by practicing more the skills that I possess as my strengths while seek to learn and improve the skills that I feel I have a weakness in. I will seek to take advantage of all the available relevant resources as a way of equipping myself with the necessary skills and updated about the existing information about given issues as a way of capitalizing on opportunities and neutralizing threats in my career development.

Personal Brand Statement

My personal brand statement is, “Through my creativity and innovative skills I always strive to bring a new experience by embracing teamwork so as to come up with decisive measures of tapping every individual’s potential for the success of all of us” (BARRETT, 2011). My key goals are professionalism, personal development and productivity. I possess skills such as creativity, innovation, teamwork skills, managerial skills, planning and organising skills. I have a wide array of experience in organising events as well as financial management skills having served as an adviser to my university student body financial committee (RAMPERSAD, 2009). Below is a portrait picture of my friends and me as a show of teamwork effort.

Conclusively the psychometric tests in form of the four tests, Verbal and Numerical Reasoning Tests; MBTI (Myers-Briggs short version, based on Jung Typology); SHL Free Personality Questionnaire (competency based) and Prospects Planner have been helpful to my discovery of who I am. Despite having a number of weaknesses am happy that still my strengths outweighs them and with the

given opportunities am able to move forward my career development efforts by maximizing my strengths, minimizing my weaknesses and overcoming the existing threats by prioritizing key skills that need to be addressed through skills audit (BARRETT, 2011). My personal brand statement speaks volumes about me in terms of my key skills, experience and goals and is my driving force in my career development path.
