Understanding Your Strength with VIA Survey Essay Example
The VIA Survey of Character Strengths is just a very simple self-evaluation that takes not more than 15 minutes and gives a lot of data that would help you to know or understand your core qualities. Most identity tests concentrate on neutral and negative characteristics, yet the VIA Survey concentrates on your best qualities (Park, N., & Peterson et al, 2009). It is confidential, private and scientifically validated. Understanding your character strength would help you most probably to craft a job that one has already. Knowing your strength would promote work satisfaction. “If a worker in a given occupation scored higher on a less typical strength of character within that occupation, then he or she was more likely to be satisfied with work. Perhaps such an individual brings to bear strengths that are especially needed at work. Or perhaps such an ind
...ividual feels distinct from his or her co-worker” (Peterson, Christopher, et al).
After doing the survey, my profile showed my five highest strengths to be Humility, love of learning, Team work, creativity and appreciation of beauty & excellence. My top character is humility and this shows my character of not seeking the spotlight or recognition though people value and recognize my modesty. Humility would help me understand people’s limitations and appreciate others as well as respect their opinions through understanding that our talents are different just the way our minds are different and as a result this would enable me to look for answers outside my abilities.
My second character strength is the love for learning and this helps me to master new skills, bodies of knowledge and topics. Whether formally or on one’s own, I have the strengt
of curiosity and I would also go beyond it in order to describe the tendency. Team work is my third character strength and would help me to work well as a group member or team member. Would enable me to remain loyal as well as doing one’s share. Creativity comes as my character strength number four and understanding it would enable me to think of productive ways in order to conceptualize as well as do things and think of novel. This would also include artistic achievement but is not limited to it. The last but not the least is the fifth strength which is appreciation of beauty & excellence. Understanding this strength reveals my character of appreciating and noticing excellence, beauty as well as skilled performance in different do mains of life.
As a student/ employee some of the highest strength have not been applicable to my daily life. Though the survey shows teamwork as part of my highest character strengths, it is very likely that I have not been effectively using this character regularly. I am planning to take the advantage of having this trait to reap the possible benefits of feeling much engaged in work through using it in team setting. The trait would also help me to develop high quality connections with the other group members as well as help me to be creatively involved in the group process. Teamwork will bring a sense that I am a part of something greater than I really am.
