The reason she is ashamed of herself not only because of the burn scars running up and down her arms and legs; but because of the way Dee treated her, Maggie might have been a different person if Dee treated her differently. Also Maggie is the complete opposite of Dee, Maggie is shy and likes to be invisible but Dee is loud and loves to be the center of attention. Maggie is a static character and Dee dynamic character; for Maggie doesn't change and Dee changes a little bit by changing her name and point of view on her heritage.
