We tend to not like change, so there is always a problem with the methods of security checks or the machines/scanners they use. But, what if there was no security? What would happen if there were not x-ray machine or hand held scanner to find hidden contraband or explosive devices that have no place on the airplane. Airport security is Important because it helps the traveler to have peace of mind while on the airplane.

The passenger feels that the plane will make It to the destination because everyone has gone through the security checks and was deemed to be a safe traveler with nothing dangerous on their person or In the luggage. The passengers don't have to be on edge, but can be comfortable. Security lines are long sometimes, but if it guarantees the safety of the passe

ngers on the plane, I feel like it is worth the wait. If the passenger has the proper documents at hand, especially proper identification, it speeds the process up. Wearing the proper clothes and shoes also helps to speed up the process of going thru the security check-point.

Clothes should e easy and accessible to be scanned and shoes should be easy to remove if asked to do so. These things help the people doing the security checks be more efficient and delivering faster service. I believe that airport security Is most important because of the terrorist activities that include bombing and hijacking of airplanes on the ground and In the air. They try to bring bombs, knives, box cutters, liquid explosives and other harmful and dangerous things on board to destroy the plane and the passengers. I

think airport security should be tighter than It Is now because too any things are still sneaked on board.

On the television news programs, it has been documented that people are stowing away on the planes by using fake identification to get thru security screening. They are also stealing the other passengers' bags or stealing items from their bags. Security measures need to be fine-tuned to make sure these things cannot take place. Another good thing about increasing security is that thousands of airport jobs were created. Because of the 911 tragedy, the economy fell and so many lost their jobs.

The outcry from the public for tighter security caused the government, airlines, and airports to create thousands of new positions all across the country. These jobs are providing decent salaries plus benefits. This, In turn, helps the economy and helps people to take care of their families. It became a win win situation. The passengers can travel feeling more safely and people are finding Jobs.

Security procedures may be slightly different depending on the airline or airport. At encounter military personnel, bomb sniffing dogs, or be checked for explosive residue on your clothes. Be sure not to act nervous or scared because you are not familiar with the any of the procedures. You may draw unnecessary or unwanted attention to yourself. Always try to remain calm, because it's Just part of the flying process. If you are chosen by an agent to be searched, don't get mad or upset.

Most of these searches are random, and doesn't mean that you did anything to trigger any suspicion. Here are a few airline rules:

1. Liquids must be 3.

4 oz maximum. Medications, baby formula, breast milk are allowed but you must let security know. Gels, lotions, shampoos, etc. Are allowed but has to be in plastic bag.

2. Most airlines do allow carry-on bags. You may even carry-on a laptop, purse, backpack, or briefcase.

3. You may bring canes, walkers, and crutches but they must be able to be stored.

4. If you travel with a baby or child, you may bring extra items on board, if room is available.

5. Musical instruments are allowed but they must be able to be stored. These are Just a short list of what is or isn't allowed on board an airplane.

The thing to do is to contact the Department of Homeland Security or your coal TTS office and find out what the guidelines are so when you go to the airport you already know what is expected before being cleared through the airport security. Complying with safety guidelines may seem like an invasion of everyone's privacy, but it's really not. I am one hundred percent for airport security and I feel that it should be tight enough that people should not be able to easily breach it. Remember, all these policies and procedures are put in place to make air travel a fun and safe experience.
