What is Zoology?
Zoology is the study of animals and their habitats, anatomy, physiology, behavior, evolution and classification. It’s a wide-ranging science that includes many subfields such as evolutionary biology, ecology and animal behavior. Zoologists can specialize in a particular species or group of species to better understand how they interact with each other and their environment. They use tools like genetic testing, field work observations and laboratory experiments to gain insights into animal behavior. One of the main goals of zoology is to conserve biodiversity by understanding how different ecosystems are affected by human activities such as climate change or habitat destruction. By studying changes in populations over time zoologists can identify potential impacts on wildlife health so conservation measures can be put in place to protect them from further harm. Additionally zoologists investigate questions about our own evolution by examining similar features between humans and other animals. In addition to research activities, zoologists may also become involved with public education programs at zoos or nature preserves where they share their knowledge about wild creatures with visitors. Some zoologists may even do rescue work for endangered species which involves transporting animals from dangerous situations or assisting during rehabilitation efforts after injury or illness has occurred. No matter what branch of zoology you pursue it’s an incredibly rewarding profession where you get to combine your love for animals while helping protect these amazing creatures at the same time.
