What is World War 2?
World War 2 was a global military conflict that lasted from 1939 to 1945 and involved most of the world’s great powers. It is considered one of the most deadly conflicts in human history, with an estimated 70 million people killed. The war was fought between the Axis powers (Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Japan) and Allied forces (Britain, France, United States). World War 2 saw some of the most important technological advances in warfare. It also witnessed some of humanity’s greatest atrocities such as the Holocaust and atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.The causes of World War 2 can be traced back to the end of World War 1 in 1918. This included unresolved disputes over German reparations payments; Territorial claims by Germany towards Europe; Expansionism by Japan in Asia; Ethnic tensions across Eastern Europe; and The rise of Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler. In September 1939 Hitler invaded Poland which resulted in Britain and France declaring war on Germany leading to what then became known as World War 2. During this time millions were mobilized into service as soldiers or forced labor camps while civilians suffered economic hardship due to rationing or bombardment from enemy forces. Major battles took place all over the world including North Africa, Italy, Russia (known as Stalingrad), D-Day landings at Normandy beachhead and many more locations across Europe and Asia Pacific region. On August 6th 1945 an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima followed by a second one three days later on Nagasaki which resulted in immediate Japanese surrender ending World War 2 with victory for Allied forces. In conclusion ,World War 2 had a devastating impact on humanity causing unimaginable suffering for both combatants and civilians alike. Countless lives were lost in pursuit of freedom from tyranny resulting in numerous advances being made within military technology that are still seen today. As well as being one of mankind’s costliest wars , it will forever be remembered as a period when courage , bravery & resilience shone through even amongst darkness & despair .
