What is White Blood Cells And Platelets?
White blood cells (WBCs) and platelets are two of the most important components of the human body’s immune system. WBCs, also known as leukocytes, are responsible for defending the body against invading pathogens and foreign substances. Platelets, also known as thrombocytes, play an important role in clotting and healing wounds.WBCs come in three main types: neutrophils, basophils, and eosinophils. Neutrophils are a type of phagocyte that engulf and destroy bacteria, viruses, and other foreign particles. Basophils contain histamine which helps to protect against allergens while eosinophils help to fight off parasites. WBCs can be found circulating throughout the bloodstream where they look for potential threats to attack or remove from the body.Platelets are cell fragments that aid in clot formation by releasing factors that cause blood vessels to constrict and prevent further bleeding when an injury occurs. Platelets also release growth factors which contribute to tissue repair after injury or infection has occurred. In addition to their role in clotting and healing wounds, platelets can also help protect against cancer by inhibiting tumor growth through their ability to bind tumor cells together so they cannot spread throughout the body any further than where they originated from. In conclusion, WBCs and platelets play an essential role in defending our bodies from invading pathogens while helping us heal from injuries or infections quickly with minimal complications. Without them our bodies would be incapable of fighting off diseases or repairing damage caused by them effectively making us more vulnerable to serious illness or death due to lack of protection from potential threats like bacteria or viruses.
