What is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a form of medical practice that has been used in China for thousands of years. TCM focuses on the balance between body, mind and spirit, treating the whole person rather than just focusing on symptoms. It uses various methods such as acupuncture, herbal remedies and massage to promote health and wellbeing.Acupuncture is perhaps the best known aspect of TCM. This involves inserting thin needles into specific points along the body’s meridians or pathways to stimulate certain areas to correct disharmony or imbalance in Qi (energy) circulation within the body. This can help alleviate conditions such as pain, digestive disorders, depression and anxiety. Herbal remedies are another type of treatment used in TCM which involve using natural plants and herbs to treat illness by boosting energy levels, improving digestion and aiding detoxification processes. Massage therapy is also employed as part of a holistic approach to healing, promoting relaxation while targeting specific areas of tension or pain in order to improve overall wellbeing.TCM has become increasingly popular over recent years due to its focus on prevention rather than cure – it aims to restore balance before illness takes hold rather than simply treating existing symptoms with medication. Furthermore, many people find these treatments more accessible than traditional Western medicine due largely to their non-invasive nature; most treatments do not require any drugs or surgery so they can be undertaken from the comfort of one’s own home with minimal risk involved.
