What is Solution Focused Therapy?
Solution Focused Therapy is an evidence-based form of psychotherapy that focuses on identifying and building upon a person’s strengths, rather than dwelling on past problems. It is also known as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) or Solutions-Focused Therapy. Unlike more traditional forms of therapy, where the therapist spends hours exploring the patient’s problematic past, Solution Focused Therapy emphasizes present concerns and future goals. The goal of this type of therapy is to encourage people to look for solutions to their current issues and focus on taking action that can help them achieve their desired outcomes.Solution Focused Therapy encourages clients to identify areas they would like to change in their lives and come up with positive solutions for those changes. To do this, therapists use a variety of techniques such as focusing on possibility questions that explore what it would be like if the client’s problem were solved or minimized; brainstorming potential solutions; setting attainable goals; developing action plans; and utilizing positive reinforcement when small victories are achieved. The main strength of Solution Focused Therapy is its ability to provide short-term results. By emphasizing current situations and working towards tangible goals, patients can begin to experience a sense of progress much faster than with more traditional forms of psychotherapy. This type of therapy also works well for those who have difficulty discussing their feelings or connecting past experiences with present issues due its focus on practical solutions rather than delving into deeper emotional issues in search for answers. Overall, Solution Focused Therapy provides individuals with an effective way to identify areas they want to change in their life and find concrete ways to make those changes happen. It gives people the tools necessary for achieving success without getting bogged down in analysis or rehashing old pain points from the pastallowing them instead to move forward towards positive outcomes with greater confidence and self-awareness than ever before.
