What is National Rifle Association?
The National Rifle Association (NRA) is a non-profit organization in the United States that advocates for gun rights. Founded in 1871, the NRA is one of the nation’s oldest and most powerful lobbying groups. Its mission is to promote firearm ownership and use for sport, hunting, self-defense, recreation and competitive shooting. The organization has more than five million members and is known for its staunch defense of an individual’s right to bear arms as outlined by the Second Amendment of the U.S Constitution. The NRA has a long history of influencing public policy on gun control laws at both state and federal levels. It has been successful in opposing various forms of gun control legislation such as bans on assault weapons or high-capacity magazines, background checks for firearms purchases or restrictions on open carry laws. The organization actively lobbies politicians to oppose any form of regulation that it believes would infringe upon an individual’s right to bear arms as outlined by the Second Amendment. In addition, it provides legal support to those who have been charged with firearms violations or faced legal challenges related to their second amendment rights through its Civil Rights Defense Fund program. The NRA also plays an important role in educating Americans about responsible gun ownership through its various training programs including basic pistol shooting classes, hunter safety courses and other educational seminars designed to help individuals learn how to properly handle firearms safely and responsibly within their jurisdiction’s regulations. Additionally, it sponsors competitions nationally where competitors can demonstrate their skills at shooting rifles and handguns safely at designated shooting ranges across America. Through such competitions, shooters can hone their accuracy while learning safe handling techniques which can be used when engaging with live ammunition during hunting trips or other recreational activities involving firearms.
