What is Listening?
Listening is a key communication skill that can make or break relationships, help us learn and understand the world around us. It requires active engagement and focus on what is being said in order to really comprehend it. Listening is more than just hearing what someone has to say; it involves understanding its meaning as well as responding appropriately with an open mind and heart. Active listening means taking in information, reflecting on it, asking questions and offering feedback if needed. This helps build trust between two people by showing that you are genuinely interested in what they have to say and will take their thoughts into consideration when making decisions together. Effective listening also allows for better problem solving because both parties can come up with creative solutions based off of each other’s input. In addition, listening can be used to improve relationships by allowing both parties to feel heard and respected. When one person listens without judgement or interruption, the other feels valued and appreciated which strengthens the bond between them over time. Furthermore, it encourages empathy as we try to put ourselves in others shoes instead of jumping straight into a solution for their issue without truly understanding how they feel about it first hand. Overall, listening is an essential part of communication that needs practice in order for us to become better communicators overall – whether at work or at home with our loved ones.
