What is Graphical User Interface?
Graphical User Interface (GUI) is a type of user interface that enables users to interact with electronic devices through graphical icons and visual indicators. It allows the user to quickly access information, control the computer, or operate software programs with minimal effort. GUI has been around since 1980’s and it has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its easy-to-use nature and intuitive design. A GUI consists of small icons, menus, windows, dialog boxes, toolbars, scroll bars etc., all of which are used for giving instructions to the computer system. The user can click on menus or drag and drop objects from one area to another using a mouse pointer . With a few clicks on the mouse button, you can open a new window or folder; resize an object; select items from lists; draw shapes; apply colors and textures; save changes made in document files etc. All these tasks can be performed without having any prior knowledge about programming languages as well as complex commands associated with them. GUI’s make our lives easier by providing us with an intuitive way of interacting with computers that require less training than traditional command line interfaces (CLIs). Additionally, they have helped increase productivity by allowing users to quickly navigate between applications while multitasking – something impossible before GUIs were introduced. Furthermore due their ability to display data graphically rather than textually they are much more visually appealing and easier for most people understand at first glance making them ideal for novice computer users who don’t want to spend time learning how to use complicated software programs for performing basic operations such as creating documents and spreadsheets.. Overall GUI’s provide us with an efficient way of controlling computers which makes life much simpler compared to having no Graphical User Interfaces at all.
