What is Geometry?
Geometry is one of the oldest branches of mathematics and has had a long and storied history. It deals with shapes, sizes, angles, and relationships between different types of figures such as polygons, circles, triangles, etc. Geometry helps us to understand spatial relationships in our world by using diagrams and graphs to represent these relationships. Geometric principles are also used in fields such as engineering, architecture, art and design to create structures that are efficient and aesthetically pleasing.In its basic form geometry covers topics such as points (a zero-dimensional figure), lines (one-dimensional figures), angles (two-dimensional figures) , plane shapes (three-dimensional figures) and solids (four- or more dimensional figures). Commonly studied topics within geometry include area formulas for geometric shapes like rectangles or triangles; volume formulas for three dimensional objects such as cones or cylinders; Pythagorean Theorem which states that the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of squares of other two sides; similar triangles which have equal angles but not necessarily equal sides; parallel lines which never intersect each other regardless how far they extend in either direction; congruent shapes which have exactly same sizes when superimposed onto each other; symmetry where parts on opposite sides match perfectly when an object is cut down its center. Geometry can be both interesting and challenging at times especially when it comes to visualizing concepts involving 3D objects. However once you get familiar with all the fundamentals understanding proofs becomes easier while gaining insight into some deeper aspects this branch holds makes it even more enjoyable.
