What is Frank Lloyd Wright?
Frank Lloyd Wright was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator. He is widely considered to be one of the most important figures in 20th century architecture. His creative vision helped shape modernist architecture and has had a lasting influence on design today.Wright was born in 1867 in Wisconsin, where he grew up immersed in rural landscapes something that would later inform his building designs. At 15 he left home to study civil engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison but soon left due to lack of funds. It wasn’t until 6 years later when he was hired at the firm of Adler & Sullivan that his career as an architect began to take off. Under their tutelage, Wright developed a unique style which blended elements from both traditional Japanese aesthetics with Modernism creating what became known as Organic Architecture which utilized natural materials such as wood and stone for its buildings’ exteriors and incorporated elements from nature into its interiors too like skylights or fireplaces made out of fieldstone. Throughout his long career, Wright designed more than 1,000 structures including houses, office buildings, churches and museums making him one of the most prolific architects ever. But despite this success, it wasn’t always smooth sailing: by 1925 financial difficulties forced him into bankruptcy; yet still he managed to stay afloat and continue working until his death in 1959 at age 91. The legacy Frank Lloyd Wright left behind lives on through some of his best-known works like Fallingwater (1935) complex Johnson Wax Building (1936) Guggenheim Museum (1959). Today these iconic structures are seen worldwide as symbols of American architectural prowess and have been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage status due their historical importance. Through decades worth pioneering design work Frank Lloyd Wright not only revolutionized the way we think about architecture but also forever changed how people look at space itself influencing generations after him who strive for excellence within their craft just like he did during his lifetime.
