What is Extended Family Members?
An extended family is an important part of many cultures. It is a group made up beyond the nuclear family, usually consisting of grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives. Extended family members can provide support and love while teaching important values. As such they are integral to passing on culture and traditions from one generation to the next. Extended families have been part of human societies for thousands of years and serve many functions. They can provide financial stability by sharing resources or offering help with childcare or elder care responsibilities. In addition, extended families offer emotional support during hard timeswhether it be illness in the family or major life changes such as graduating from college or getting married. Extended families also play an important role in providing guidance and mentorship to young people in their formative years by offering wisdom gained through experience and respect for elders in the community. This can include advice related to religious values as well as information about careers, healthy lifestyle choices and relationships that will help them become successful individuals later on in life. For those who have lost their parents at a young age, extended families often provide a sense of security by filling the void left behind with love and care just like parents would offer.
