What is Double And Triple Bonds?

A double bond and a triple bond are types of chemical bonds formed between atoms. Double bonds consist of two pairs of shared electrons, while triple bonds consist of three pairs of shared electrons. Triple bonds form when three electron pairs are shared between two atoms creating six bonding electrons and forming one sigma (σ) bond and two pi (Ï€) bonds with all three being equal strength. This makes it even harder to rotate around each other than with double bonded molecules, making them very strong structures that cannot be easily broken apart by external forces such as heat or pressure. Examples include acetylene (C2H2), which has a triple-bonded carbon atom at the center, as well as nitrogen gas (N2), which consists of a triple bonded nitrogen atom pair. The strength of both these types of chemical bonds is determined by their ability to resist rotation about their own axis due to having multiple sets of paired electrons sharing an equal number of protons at their core nucleus. Double or triple bonded molecules also tend to be more resistant to external forces such as heat or pressure compared to single covalent bonded ones because there is no way for any additional electron pairings from outside sources can take place without breaking apart the existing equilibrium state first.
