What is Composition?
Composition is a form of art that focuses on creating a work of music through the arrangement and combination of different sounds. It involves combining melodic, harmonic and rhythmic elements together to create a unified piece of music. The process of composition is highly creative and often involves improvisation as well as traditional techniques. The act of composition can be divided into three distinct stages: pre-composition, composition, and post-composition. Pre-composition consists of the idea generation stage where ideas for the piece are generated by the composer either through improvisation or drawing upon existing material from other works. During this stage, the composer may also consider what instruments will be used in the final version and how they will be arranged in order to best express their ideas. Composition then focuses on creating the core structure and instrumentation for the piece while taking into consideration any desired modifications that were made during pre-composition. This includes determining what tempo/meter should be used, organizing sections such as intros/outros, developing melody/harmony lines, deciding which articulations should be used on each instrument (e.g., staccato notes) and more. Finally, post-composition is when an audio engineer mixes all these elements together to create a finalized version of the song ready for release or performance. Composers may draw inspiration from many sources including other musical works (classical or contemporary), literature & poems, film scores & soundtracks, nature sounds or even purely abstract concepts like emotion or imagination. Ultimately it’s up to each individual composer to decide how they want to approach their craft but there are certain common tools & techniques which help them achieve their desired results such as using scales & chords progressions; modulating between keys; tempo changes; counterpoint writing; etc Composing music is an art form that requires both creativity and technical knowledge in order for it to become something special something that speaks directly to its audience emotionally yet intellectually stimulating at same time. It’s a process full of experimentation & exploration which often leads unexpected places resulting in interesting pieces with unique qualities.
