Influence of Mobile phones in modern society Essay Example
The development and usage of social media has led to widespread adoption globally, especially among young people. However, many youth find it challenging to control their usage and become addicted, resulting in negative effects such as decreased academic performance, disconnection from reality, and compromised health. This addiction specifically hampers the academic achievements of young individuals.
Social media has had a negative impact on students, leading to a decline in their academic performance. Despite regularly attending classes, these students find it difficult to concentrate on their studies due to excessive use of cell phones for activities such as browsing Facebook or chatting with friends on Messenger. Continually checking their phones every few minutes hinders their ability to listen and understand the lessons taught by professors. Furthermore, these young individual
...s not only neglect their school work but also fail to participate in physical activities or prepare for upcoming lessons. Consequently, social media has caused them to become disconnected from reality.
Using cell phones excessively throughout the day prevents individuals from participating in outdoor activities like sports and camping. Instead of interacting with friends or communicating with parents, these people opt to chat on social media platforms. They prefer staying at home and constantly updating their social media content, such as posting statuses and sharing photos with friends.
As time goes by, people will primarily live in a digital world where the extensive use of social media significantly impacts their overall health. This is particularly true for young individuals who are addicted to social platforms and stay up late to interact on Facebook or chat with friends, which can have negative effects on their well-being
especially brain function. Lack of sleep results in weight loss, constant tiredness, and diminished cognitive capabilities.
Excessive use of social media can lead to depression in young people as they come across different profiles on these platforms. Comparing themselves to more attractive or skilled individuals can make them feel inadequate, resulting in envy towards those who are more renowned or intelligent. This intensifies their feelings of shame and self-doubt as they constantly question why they cannot achieve the same level of excellence, talent, or attractiveness.
Experiencing pressure, stress, and depression during youth can make individuals vulnerable to severe mental issues that may result in loss of sanity and choosing death. Despite the various advantages social media provides, becoming addicted to it can have adverse effects such as hindering studying, disconnecting from reality, and declining overall health.
To prevent social media addiction, young people should prioritize sports, studying, and participating in school activities.
Personal Opinion on the Impact of Social Media on Teenagers
The internet became more accessible in 2015, making it easier for people to misuse technology. However, not everyone falls into this category. Studies show that individuals aged 12-21 are the most frequent users of social media. Being within this age range myself, I understand that platforms like Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat are mainly used to stay updated on current trends, follow favorite artists, and keep track of peers' activities.
However, the ease of contacting someone through a simple screen tap has led to an excessive reliance on technology. We have reached a point where we can carry out an entire conversation with someone in our vicinity without uttering a single word. Rather than physically visiting our friends, we prefer
sending them pictures via Snapchat. Consequently, author Mark Bauerlein has branded us as the "Dumbest generation" owing to our excessive technological dependence. I am fully aware that my generation predominantly utilizes technology for social media purposes, which can be seen as a misuse of technology in many respects. While socializing online poses a significant temptation, its impact is primarily limited to our social lives unless we consciously allow it to affect us in other areas.
Teenagers are heavily impacted by what they bring into their lives. Social media and the internet present countless advantages for teenagers. Many individuals my age utilize social media to communicate their ideas with peers. Websites that allow interaction among same-aged peers hold immense importance for teenagers as they enable self-expression. As we mature, comprehending our identity and aspirations becomes crucial. Social media serves as a convenient avenue to explore and uncover these facets. Hence, it is advantageous for us to acquire the skill of expressing ourselves respectfully through social media prior to entering adulthood.
Social media offers convenient means to connect with individuals in your vicinity, fostering intimate friendships and mutual advantages. This is particularly applicable to my generation, as social media has played a major role in forming lasting relationships. The efficacy of this platform in cultivating connections lies in its capacity to facilitate the expression of personal preferences, enabling people to discover common interests effortlessly. While certain individuals may perceive social media in a negative light, it also possesses immense potential for positive impacts; however, responsible usage is imperative.
Here are five ways in which technology benefits young people:
- Technology allows friends to stay connected even
when physically apart.
In conclusion, social media has both positive and negative effects on the younger generation. It has the potential to support young individuals' growth in various aspects while also potentially limiting their development. Ultimately, it is our responsibility to determine the impact of social media on our lives!
