Is it possible to become "addicted" to technology? Technology permeates every aspect of our lives; and we are surrounded by it. Telephone, Cell phone, Television, computers, and the Internet have made our life a little easier, a little more convenient, and a more enjoyable.

Or have they! Can we become "addicted" to technology? In today’s society people are addicted to the internet. We spend a lot of time in the internet surfing the web, checking our email, shopping, researching, and doing school work, but most of it playing video games online. Video games one of the biggest contributors of kids getting hook on technology, does this means that technical support technician, Network Engineer, System Administrators this entire people that work with technology are addicted to technology.

games, this bunch of people that dedicate their time and effort to bring enjoyment to families and kids of all ages, scientist and researchers might think that this people are addicted to technology but really is their jobs. We most considered all this people and get to a conclusion if they are really addicted to technology.

Video games as programmers developers go thru a lot of physical and mental paint working on developing a good program for that specific game and that is why we get so hook on those games that we don’t want to leave the front of the TV, or the computer, and that is why they said that we are addicted to technology. In today’s society technology plays a large role in everyday life Technology and society is completely interwoven. “We no longer use technology, we live it” (Schwarz & Jansma, 1989,

p. 3). People have come to a point in society where they can almost do nothing without technology being involved.

We need it to have some control in our daily live, like if we forget our Cell phone in the house we go crazy, it like the world going to end, it’s like without a cell phone we are nothing and we feel naked it. As technology developed we need more and more of it, as soon they show a commercial of a new computer we are on guard for the day it’s going on the store shelf and their we are buying something that we don’t know if it work properly. So that means that we are addicted to technology and her gadgets. “When humans are extreme dependence on technical artifacts and the lines blur between who is the master and who is the slave”. Glendisdrug, 2001, p. 23A). These are signs that you’re being dependent upon technology in your everyday life. How about if you have one of does house of the future that with a crack of your fingers the windows open, with a touch of a button a pice of the wall hide and the TV comes out, I ask myself if they sell this type of house down the line “and I know they do, but only Rich people can afford this houses” you must be really addicted to technology. Excessive technology use can also cause changes in dopamine levels. Those are the part of the brain regulating rewards, punishments, euphoria, alcohol and drug use.

Researchers are finding that technology uses triggers the same ones in the brain that are activated through

substance abuse. For the people’s that don’t drink, smoke or use any type of drugs and have live his life clean and got hook on technology this can become a serious problem, in college I knew a guy that every time a new gadget comes out like a new Hard Drive of 600GB or higher he need to have it, he said that is like a obsessive compulsion in his brain that tell him that he need to have it, and that’s how bad we can get to be addicted to technology.

For people like that and that are addicted to the Internet and other type of technology, they even have a clinic for it. Specially for people with internet problem and video games for people with that type of problem there is a clinic, and it is really expensive, the name of this clinic is ReSTART, Internet Addiction Recovery and for 45 day you will pay a whopping $14. 500, so we do have a place for people to go and get better, and that means that addiction to technology is getting worse in the United State not to mention in other part of the world.

Others may say that technology isn’t extreme enough to be considered dependency, but it can still cause mental health and harm relationships. So how much is too much? We really don’t know that answer yet and clearly, not every tech user is an addict, I use myself as an example I us to pray to god that I can have a job dealing with computers, and I got it, I got addicted to computers so bad that my prayers was

answer but I found myself dislike them, but I can said that I am addicted to video games because that is the only mean of entertainment for me.

Like water, technology is a crucial part of our daily lives. Are we going to be able to control our addiction to technology or just keep being addicted to it? To me ‘It depends on how you see it, with the growing of videos games and all of those video gamers demanding more and more, I think we are hook on technology for a long time and as long they keep coming out with new OS, and gadgets we are going to be addicted to the technology of the 21 first Century for a long time.

I think it is better to be hook on or be addicted to technology than be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
