Simons Construction is currently located throughout the UK, originating in Nottingham as W and J Simons in 1873. The company relocated to Lincoln in 1944 to provide support to the various airfields in the surrounding region.
Today, Simons is a Private Limited Business with branches in 10 locations throughout the UK. According to the Companies Act of 1980, this requires a minimum of two shareholders/members and the use of the word "Limited" in the business name to inform other companies of its status. Although shares are only issued by the company and not sold to the public, Simons has successfully grown from its humble beginnings.
It's crucial for companies like Simons to recognize and comprehend the distinctions among various business types prevalent in the current marketplace. One such example is partnerships, which are defined in The Partnership Act of 1890 as a commercial relationship between people pursuin
...g profit together. Essentially, partnerships have multiple owners who share everything jointly.
This implies that the partners have joint responsibilities in managing the enterprise and receiving its earnings. Partnership arrangements may include creating a Deed of Partnership, which is a binding legal instrument that addresses various matters, such as:
- The goals of businesses in the private sector were historically distinct from those in the public sector. Nonetheless, starting in 1979, much of these variations have been abolished.
- Most of this module concentrates on objectives in the private sector.
Simons has a clear vision for their company and established objectives to achieve their goals. They aim to improve their environmental position, emphasizing the importance of quality construction and innovative design to both customers and employees. To promote environmental
awareness, an Environmental Manager was appointed in 1999. Additionally, Simons formed an Environmental Squad made up of all group companies to develop an overarching approach towards construction in alignment with the Group Environmental Policy Statement that was approved by the Board in September of that year.
Simons will focus on maintaining environmental care and developing a detailed environmental policy statement in the next year. The covered issues will relate to sites, office activities, transport, purchasing, and Design and Build projects. The policy within Simons is to perform everything better and earlier than competitors, prioritizing environmentally less damaging high-profile projects over many high impact ones. They plan to promote the use of segregated skips on sites following the success of the waste segregation exercise in Lincoln's scaffold yard. If only single skips are feasible, they will be sent to waste transfer stations for recyclable waste separation before disposal in landfill or through incineration.
Simons is dedicated to addressing a variety of waste problems. To achieve this, they plan on partnering with subcontractors to recycle trade-specific waste, recycling office and site consumables, and coming up with effective approaches for managing cardboard and polythene waste both in their offices and on-site. They have made a pledge to prevent pollution from their locations by properly storing and using fuel and chemicals while also preventing the accumulation of silt that could enter sewage plants. Their efforts will continue into the next few months.
Simons demonstrates its dedication to providing high-quality service through the effectiveness of its various departments and numerous awards for construction and service. These accolades inspire employees to strive for continued improvement in the construction industry. Based on observations, it can
be confidently declared that Simons' internal objectives are attainable and realistic, boding well for future progress.
