Garbage first joined the music scene in the year 1995 to a better level of critical acclaim. I really appreciated their first two albums as they enjoyed a lot of commercial success all around the entire world. However, the scheme was lost with the release of their following two albums. They did not achieve the artist’s merit compared to the first two albums. The band, Garbage, did not release another album or single for about seven years. Over those years, it produced a new album by the name Not Your Kind of People. From my own observation, this album was equal to their earlier albums. That was a good sign indeed.

The band, Garbage, was not about subtlety. The self-titled debut in 1995 was a flash introduction to the band. The pink feathers and the graffiti logo on the cover as well was an

introduction to the band too. After twenty years when the album was released the band’s complex legacy still calls for exploration. Garbage has two sides of their debut that include the trip-hop experiments and the alternative rock poster band. The image of the Garbage supports the former band. Having the name Garbage paired with the orange hair of Shirley the band is believed to exude a punk ethos.

In the late 1990s, garbage’s blends of slick production, fuzzy guitars together with female vocals were quite enjoyable. The aggression and angst in the lyrics of Only Happy When it rains or Stupid Girl that had edgy clothes and distorted guitars was highly marketable at that period. The band is composed of highly talent members who are producers and songwriters. Such a collective band knows

the in and out of the music business as much art as well. The first Garbage disc produced in seven years sounds tight, dark and shiny whereby Shirley Manson was the vocalist. The advancement of technology led to the quality of music on the album.

I liked the quality of the music, vocals and performance of the band. There are varieties of tracks with a general appeal which is very strong. All the members of the band play various roles including Manson, who is a vocalist, Butch Vig plays drummer Duke Erikson bassist and Steve marker who plays the Guitar. The band members are passionate about their work and work to make the music sound right despite its foundation. Big is featured in most of the tracks like Nirvana’s Nevermind, Sonic Youth’s Dirty as well as Smashing Pumpkin’s Gish.

According to the current interviews, Garbage’s unexpected and lengthy hiatus was an outcome of the restrictions and pressure that was placed on them. Such pressure was placed by the earlier record label they signed to that led the band to produce and release its current album. They used their own record label and stun volume. The hit track Not Your Kind of People was initially released in the middle of May through iTunes. The track was made available within a week's time on vinyl and compact disk. The album is currently available in two versions. The standard version that contains about eleven tunes and the other one is the deluxe version that has four more tracks of the album.
The album Not Your kind of People is termed as the energetic comeback that is composed of electronic rock. The

electronic rock actually earned the band quadruple platinum status. This album immediately starts with the dramatic commencement of automatic, systematic habit that quickly breaks into loud churning synths and guitars that make up the signature garbage sound.

According to the album's initial four tracks that I can term as hit tracks include the first single entitled Blood for Poppies. Despite its endless radio plays, it must be listened to via headphones so that one can appreciate the detail vocal and effects arrangements that the Garbage has put into the song. Not Your Kind of People is the album’s title track that I feel it’s a mellow, dreamy lullaby song about being an outcast and different but remains honest and genuine. The words of Manson can be assumed in reference to that fact that the band did not fit into any given type of music scene.

The extra song of the album found on the deluxe version is the track What Girls are made of that exudes the 1980s sounds. Garbage is a band that challenges the notion of substance versus style. The band is sometimes derided for being an overproduced smooth incorporation of more organic alternative music components. For me, it is the lack of authenticity of Garbage that makes the band so compelling. I really love the genre bending but not the purists cry foul. Hermetically sealed music normally makes me bored. The band once sounded so slick even with rough edges. Garbage band is composed of three producers Gish, Butch Vig and Siamese Dream.

The band still sounds like the ancient Garbage which is good news to me. However, the bad news is that the band

declined in song quality at some point of its productions. It is said that whatever used to sound fresh is now a formula, but all is not lost since the members still advance their music production. Vocalist and lyricist Manson is criminally underrated. No one in rock music sounds like her since she is highly gifted of vulnerability that is infused with gritty inner strength. The traits make her an empowered woman while she is not defensible to scare people. She really wears her on her sleeve and resonates strongly from her vocal cords. I do recommend the album to people who like rock music since it is very entertaining and joyous tracks.
