In these three chapters of the wonderful story called “To kill a Mockingbird,” the father Atticus shows off his wonderful and unique teaching of his children. The first example of his teaching is when his daughter Scout comes home and tells her father of a kid at school that keeps calling Atticus a “nigger lover” because he is supporting a local black person in court.

He tells her that no matter how bitter things get the people bothering them are still their friends, and the town is still their home and that she doesn’t have to fight anyone to protect her father because he can protect himself. So, she went to school the next day and the same boy told her more things about her dad and she told him to take it back and he told her

Another example is when Scout starts cussing he allows her to but then her uncle comes to town and stays with them he tells her that he doesn’t want to hear her cussing. She said ok and then one of her own cousins starts saying similar things the previous boy was saying to her.

She couldn’t take it anymore cussed him out and beat him up. Her uncle heard about the incident and spanked her she then ran over to try and get comfort from her father but he told her that she earned it by not listening to her elders (Pg.89-96). After this happened Scout talked with her uncle about what happened and told him that Atticus always listens to both side

of the story and Uncle Jack out of frustration didn’t take the time to listen to her side of the story. This really touched Uncle Jack and he went to go talk to Atticus about it and congratulated him on a good job teaching his children.

Atticus says that he teaches his kids in a specific way because they are going to have to go through a lot because of him taking on the case of the black man. He just wants to build enough trust with them so they don’t go to the town to answer their questions but to him. Then at the end of him telling this to Jack he says Scout go to bed, he had already sent her to bed but Scout stayed around the corner listening he wanted her to hear their conversation. Just another way of teaching her has.
