Communication Patterns both Within and outside the Policing Agency

Currently, communication avenues have grown swiftly for the past years. Research shows that about 78% of American families have an internet connection with 96% subscribers of cellular telephone services (balls & Braun, 2011). Due to the variety use of communication patterns, it has been harder for the policing agency to reach people using a particular mode of communication. For the police agencies, it is particularly challenging for the police due to the complexity of the problems and the diversity of the community. Despite the fact that it is paramount for the police to communicate with the public, the law enforcement remains to struggle with unparalleled reductions in budget, that have led to the loss of personnel, the gradual replacement of old technology and erosion of services.

The police are supposed to reach the entire community often. It is highly required for police to be able to communicate in diverse languages to connect with the public every time. The media news has been the major way in which police disclose relevant information to the community. Additionally, news conferences serve a part in external communication, or even posting news on the newspapers, television, and radio and the internet (balls & Braun, 2011). To communicate with the public effectively, the police agencies should ensure they not only use the traditional news feed but also include all other master and developing communication technologies. Also, they should also be aware of how the community obtains news and adopt the methods that will likely reach the targeted community.

Current Trends in the to the Policing Function

There are four main current trends

in the policing agency that are discussed below.

Community-Oriented Policing

The community-oriented policing (COP) is a new trend in the traditional organisation policing agencies. This trend is established to deal with the public scrutiny of the behaviours of the police. COP is set to create an improved openness and transparency with the public, create organisational change, opportunity integration and corporation outreach by the police, identifying and implementing problem-solving plans and finally commissioning corporate valuations which alert the cops about critical occurrences (Gelman & Kiss, 2012).

Increasing Federal Oversight for Police Accountability

This trend is a strategic plan that is established with a primary focus of suitable application of force, patterns and practices, procedural justice which adheres to the rights in the constitution. Other focus will be on crisis intervention, police officers supervision and control and reducing biased-based policing (Gelman & Kiss, 2012). The objectives for this trend include achieving an improved and comprehensive police force, transparency and accountability enforcement, to reduce officer-citizen problems, enhance policies and procedures that are inclusive and more emphasis on the importance and sacredness of everyone’s life.

Pressure on Agencies to Use On-Body Cameras Will Increase

The use of body cameras has been very effective in reducing and identifying the occurrences between police and the community. These cameras minimise the chances of forced command; the policies use the legal power and citizens do not have to lie (Gelman & Kiss, 2012)s. The use of these camera limits dissemination defines record discretion protects community and police privacy and helps develop classy standards alongside other benefits.

Problem Oriented Policing

The problem-oriented policing (POP) are a trend that depends on a different range of composed policing strategies which are mostly traditional law

enforcement. POP intersects with various innovations to improve policing such as the focused deterrence, hot spot policing and third party policing.

Conclusion

The traditional organisation structure of policing agencies is a comprehensive and intricate sector to handle. Levels of the order have been created to implement a series of communication, jurisdictional and command boundaries. It is very vital to have effective communication within the policing agencies; between organisations and the communities as such communications improve the commonality of protection and service. Policing agencies should master the developed technology and have the necessary skills to help achieve the goal of effective communication. Within the policing agencies, POP and COP methods have been designed to boost the functionality in reducing crimes in the community.
