The unique challenges presented by the modern business world require companies to have managers who have string leadership skills. This implies that the individuals must have the capacity to influence the actions of employees towards achieving the set objectives. To ensure that one has the leadership skills needed to perform a particular task, it is important for them to assess their abilities using different measures that indicate the extent to which they are good leaders. Leadership self-assessment helps one to perfect their skills as they are aware of the areas that they need to improve so as to achieve the company objectives effectively. Working as a team leader in a marketing department, I have realized the need to conduct an evaluation on my leadership skills. The following is a reflection of how effectively I am able to lead others in my team.

The ability to do what one does best is among the factors that enhance the performance of a team. As a team leader, Sergei assigns the team member duties that suit them best based on their interests, experience and talents. He works closely with the employees thus is able to identify their strengths and ensure that they are assigned duties that suit them best. Out of ten, I would rate Sergei’s leadership at 9 based on this measure.

Among the factors that motivate employees is the ability of the leaders to motivate them through means such as recognition and praise. This is one of the motivation techniques that Sergei has perfected as he recognizes any exceptional achievement by the team members. Apart from sending emails to the department notifying all members about the exceptional performance of a team member, Sergei also ensures that the individual is given a special badge to wear for one week to identify them from the rest of the team. This gives the team members the motivation to work harder so as to ensure that they get the recognition and praise. Based on his ability to motivate the employees using recognition and praise, I would rate his performance as 10 out of 10.

Leadership entails establishing personal relationships with the employees so as to learn more about them and show concern for their lives. The leaders who develop such relationships with the employees achieve the company’s objectives effectively as they make them feel valued and appreciated by the company. Sergei’s concern for the team members at a personal

level is evident by the way he treats everyone as an individual and not a group. He shows genuine concern for their lives outside the working environment such as the welfare of their families. Out of 10, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 9 based on his concern for personal lives of the team members. The ability to establish personal connections with the team members has enabled the leader to develop trust with the team members that enables him to work effectively.

Personal development is an important factor that enables the employees to adapt to the changing events in the company. It allows employees to acquire skills that boost their confidence in performing their duties. Sergei is one person that encourages the team members to develop their skills and abilities by emphasizing on the need for the individuals to develop skills that help them cope with the changing times. He is a role model to the team members because he upholds professionalism in his work such that the team achieves the set targets within the expected time. His ability to perform the expected duties diligently and relate well with all team members gives the individuals a desire to develop their abilities to match Sergei’s. Based on the ability to motivate employees to develop their skills and abilities at work, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 9/10.

One of the factors that enhance the performance of a company is the ability to retain talented employees. This is determined by the ability of the company leaders to make the employees identify with the company’s success through involving them in decision making. As a team leader, Sergei allows the team

members to own its success by ensuring that he listens to their opinions. During meetings, all the team members are given a chance to express their viewpoint on the activities of the team and he does not dismiss any of the opinions. He gives the team members a chance to decide on the best course of action by evaluating all the opinions presented by the members. Out of 10, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 10 based on his ability to listen to the team members’ opinions.

The company’s mission is among the tools that enhance the company’s performance, but this is only possible when the duties performed by the employees are aligned to achieving the company’s objectives. Under the leadership of Sergei, the marketing team is able to achieve the set targets effectively because the members understand the link between their duties and the company’s mission. The leader ensures that the old team members teach the new members about the company’s culture as well as the mission of its operations so that they understand the importance of their duties effectively. Based on this, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 8 out of 10.

The commitment of employees in their work reflects strong leadership skills of the management team. Based on his ability to motivate employees to be committed at their work, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 9 out of 10. The positive attitude that the marketing tam shows indicates full commitment to their work. To enhance their commitment, Sergei ensures that the employees understand the company goals and the importance of their input to the company.

Having best friends at work is important to the employees

as it gives them the courage to face any hardships that may be presented by their jobs. To ensure that the team members have best friends at the workplace, Sergei ensures that they interact freely. The members hold a team-building event every two weeks to improve their interpersonal relationships. Based on this, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 8 out of 10.

Evaluation of employees’ progress is also a determinant of their productivity to the company. By assessing their progress, the employees are able to identify the areas where they need to improve as well as the strategies they need to employ to achieve success in their work. Sergei has succeeded in developing personal relationships with the employees and this enables them to share their experience at work with him. He has also introduced the 360 degrees performance evaluation where the team members are evaluated by their peers to monitor their progress. Based on this, I would rate his performance at 10 out of 10.

Opportunities for employees to grow and learn enhance their productivity in a company because they are able to perform their tasks effectively. As a team leader, Sergei ensures that the members have adequate opportunities to grow by assigning them different roles in work. The leader ensures that the members perform different tasks within the marketing department for them to learn new skills and abilities. However, he ensures that the team members are well inducted before the new duties are assigned. Out of 10, I would rate Sergei’s performance at 10.

Conclusively, the reflection on my leadership skills indicates that I have strong leadership abilities because I have the power to influence the team

members to perform their duties as expected. However, there are areas that I am yet to perfect such as the ability to encourage the team member to develop personal friendships.
