Most people would probably find it easier to explain what being unprofessional is, giving examples of unprofessional people they have dealt with in the past. However, it is much easier and more positive to know what to do than not to do (Hughes, 2013). Many people go through life never finding what they truly want to do as far as a profession. Some believe they are in a profession only to find out it is a Job, not necessarily a career profession.

In the words of Guy El Bother, a French expert on the development of competencies: “A professional is a errors who possesses a personal body of knowledge and of know-how which is recognized and valued by the market. Because of this recognition, the professional benefits from an advantage not available to other workers: they can personally manage their internal or external mobility, in a specific organization or in the international market.

A person recognized as a professional possesses a social standing which is larger than the specific Job they hold down. ” (Gander, 2009) A basic description off professional is a calling or occupation. However, this is the cost basic of descriptions that does not convey the real essence of professionalism. A professional is not merely someone who has a Job but more so chosen a career path. A professional always aims to give the best they can. Whether putting together a product that will last and be safe to use or providing a service of value.

By thinking about the long term perceptions, rather than achieving quick wins. Leadership is not a born trait but rather skills achieve by a professional leader. (Hughes, 2013) Where to Start Whether Just leaving school or changing career paths, choosing a career is a daunting task.

If chosen early enough a career can last most of one’s life. Making a well thought out career choice is the most significant thing anyone can do to insure having a successful life at work (McKay, 2013). Years ago, traditional professions were doctors, engineers, lawyers, architects and commissioned military officers. Today, the list is much extensive to include nurses, accountants, educators, scientists, technology experts, social workers, artists, librarians and many more. When it comes to career paths, everyone wants to be sure to choose the right path.

Factors to consider when deciding on a career are levels of satisfaction, interest, challenge, security, and salary needed. A recent study on Job satisfaction found about 81 percent of United States employees in expressed satisfaction in their current Job. search criteria. Personal values, goals, and attitudes are deciding factors on career choices. Clarifying work values, a subset of values that relate too career, is essential. Work values are both intrinsic, relating to the actual tasks involved in practicing a particular occupation, and extrinsic, relating to the by-products of an occupation. An intrinsic value might be helping others, while an example of an extrinsic value is earning a lot of money (McKay, 2013). Development of the professional begins with the chosen career path.

A successful professional is aware of the importance for skillful communication. Communicating in the World of Professionals Within a standard company, communication can take the form of internal, external, formal and informal, upward and downward, lateral and diagonal, small group and nonverbal. All these types of communication come into play in order for the company to convey all necessary information (Rawest, 2013). Workforce professionals are better operational when equipped for all types of communication. Communication in the business world is imperative for success.

This holds true for interpersonal communication, communication between management and staff, and for practically every other contact an organization has, both within its own establishment and the outside world (Unknown, 2003). A number of variables influence the effectiveness of communication. These include the environment in which communication takes place, the personalities of the coworkers, and the relationship that exists between coworker. These different variables suggest some of the difficulties of communicating with understanding between peers. Effective communication is critical for the success of any organization.

Through the use of proper communication skills, leaders will be better able to function as groups, thus allowing organizations to share information, analyze situations and to set goals (Nelson, 1995). Effective communicators prepare with proper documentation this enables them to be precise and clear about the point, they never assume and encourage two way communication. These skills enable the professional to build trust among employees and establish good working relations ultimately leading to the health of the organization. Communicating properly among associates improves individuals all around skills.

The more successfully an organization functions the better it permits employees to perform Jobs better. “The most significant single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people” Theodore Roosevelt. An effective communicator is a leader among peers. Professional Leader Leadership is the primary expectation from a manager. It simply meaner accepting responsibility. There are certain qualities regarded essential for a strong leader. They are: Adapting to change, Decision making, Maintaining open lines of immunization and leading others to the completion of goals.

Leadership when defined will give us a better understanding. Management theorists commonly define it as “the process of influencing the activities of an individual or a group in efforts towards goal achievement in a given situation”.
