Are they being pushed out from where they come from?

Women being trafficked in China are indirectly pushed from their home countries. For instance immigrants in “the golden venture” are moved from their country due to oppression at homes such as policy by the government limiting every family to one child and the hard economic times.

Consequently, most of these women experience economic hardships which leave them defenseless to most of the vices in the society as they search for a better life since they do not have the necessary financial support to protect themselves.

This, therefore, increases their emotional venerability leaving them subject to human trafficking. Women are also pushed from their home country into this slavery by the increased level of unemployment and lack of security for their jobs which usually undermines the income of a woman and her economic position (Peters & Alicia, 27).

As a result, women take part in informal and part-time jobs which are usually poorly paid, long term as well as hidden hence making them more vulnerable to engage in practices that may finally result to human trafficking. A stalled wage gap in gender also increases women’s vulnerability to human traffickers as they try to search for a better way to earning income.

Beliefs in the society that women are of undervalue as compared

to men and as well expendable is also another factor that pushes women into human trafficking. This is because such beliefs leave always result to negative effects among women such as low level of education as well poor economic and social status leaving women exposed to high risk of being abused and trafficked.

The increased level of corruption in the country also push women to take part in practices that leave them exposed to human traffickers since it lowers the economic status of the women and also makes their lives unbearable in the home countries. This desperation, therefore, gives human traffickers a chance to lure the women to move in a different country which hence increases the incidence of human trafficking. Human traffickers

achieve through promising jobs and financial stability so that they can recruit their victims. Upon arriving in New York City, captors take control of the victims, and they are kept in places that they can be controlled instead of being given the jobs that they were promised.

This is similar to the golden venture boat where most of the migrants are kept in the boat for 2 to 4 months in the dark and were only feed one time for every two days. Some women are also sold by their relatives and friends for money which also contributes greatly to high incidences of human trafficking.

The huge profit created by human trafficking is also another big factor that to a great extent has contributed for the human trafficking to continue happening.

Women become the major target of human traffickers since commercial sexual exploitations contribute two-thirds of the profit generated in human trafficking. The huge profit, therefore, increases the desire of those who take part in these acts which hence contribute to the existence of the trade.

The cultural and social practice of devaluing, abusing and exploiting women is also another reason why the practice is still happening. This is because under such society women face perilous living conditions with little chances of upward mobility which makes them powerless when facing human traffickers (Keefe & Patrick, 135).

Is it a problem or not?

Human trafficking is a great problem especially affecting the victims. As shown by the experience of anonymous immigrants in “the golden venture” who are forcibly sterilized, beaten and detained for more than four years.

On the other side women who are trafficked suffer from a serious psychological effect such as

low self-esteem, depression, emotional disturbance and disorientation since they are often exploited and abused. These women also suffer from lasting health problems such as sexually transmitted disease since most of them are sexually exploited.

Victims are also deprived of all the human rights which hence create room for them to be oppressed. The cheap, available labor in New York also leads to reduced chances of employment among people in the city reducing per capita income of the country. This, therefore, shows that human trafficking in New York City is a problem that needs to be addressed (Peters & Alicia, 27)
Are the people being trafficked willing or unwilling?

Most of the women that are involved in human trafficking are unwilling participants since most of them end up there due to manipulation, false hope and lies that are used by human traffickers.

Women who find themselves victims of human trafficking are always victims of other circumstances in life. These include being coerced or tricked by human traffickers’ through being promised better life or wealth. Other are kidnapped and then trafficked where they are forced into the sex industry or providing labor. Women are also targeted because of their disenfranchised place that exists within the society which therefore makes them exposed to human traffickers.

Lack of education among women is also another factor that contributed to women being unwilling participant of human trafficking since they engage in informal jobs that leave them to expose to human traffickers (Peters & Alicia, 27).

Violence against women does not involve women only. It alarms each and every person and an action to stop it should take by everybody. Women in the world are the key player

in maintaining families, countries along with societies (Liu, 33). Getting rid of gender bias with gender-based aggression will increase self-respect and civil liberties of women and assist them from being trafficked. Dealing with human trafficking cuts across all vital issues, it involves peace, civil rights, security, family wellness together with development. In many cases, it means protecting the foundation of humanity. Each and every one of us has a role to play either by raising awareness, giving information, taking criminals to face the law, creating partnerships and protecting the human trafficking victims.
