Drinking cow’s milk is healthy for humans or not. Research from doctors has confirmed that cow milk, is not good for human’s health since it causes diseases to both adults and children. There have been arguments on whether drinking cow’s milk is healthy for humans or not. Research from doctors has confirmed that cow milk, is not good for human’s health. These conditions include allergies, arthritis, acne and diabetes to mention but a few. It is also believed to cause iron-deficiency anemia in children (Oski p. 23). The reason is that cow milk contains low iron compared to the mother’s milk and the baby’s failure to get enough iron leads to the iron deficiency. Few people believe that and ignore the fact the cow milk could be harmful. In America, dairy products like milk are on demand and are part of the family’s everyday diet. On the other hand, the dairy companies are contradicting that fact saying that cow milk is natural and can neither be harmful to children nor adults.
Oski continues to explain why the cow milk is unhealthy for humans. He says that another reason why cow milk is unhealthy is that, many people are lactose intolerant, which means that many people cannot digest lactose. Lactose is the sugar in milk that requires an enzyme known as lactase, which may lack in the small intestines of young babies aged between one year and four. Cow milk has also been associated with brittle bones, which are prone to fractures and breakages (Keon n. p). Keon further states that the countries with the low intake of dairy products have the least risk of osteoporosis and bone fracture. The reason behind it after growing up with the knowledge that milk is the main source of calcium is that, calcium from dairy products is not healthy. Again too much intake of cow milk causes many people to become overweight because it contains a high cholesterol content. Keon argues that America is one most wealthy nation in the world, yet it has the highest percentage of the unhealthy people because they are overweight.
Cow milk is biologically meant for cows and human’s consumption risks the body in different ways. Whole cow milk contains excessive nutrients that are unhealthy for humans. The milk contains a lot of unsaturated fats and these are harmful to the body. The accumulation of fat in the body is risky since it may lead to heart diseases. It is advisable to stop consuming cow milk and find alternative ways to get calcium to lead a healthy life.
