During this period, retailing was unorganized and consisted of separate businesses operated by small and medium entrepreneurs within their own territories. Retail, alongside agriculture, employed a significant portion of India's population. Only a few Indian companies ventured into large-scale retail operations. However, the Indian Retail Revolution began with the emergence of malls in all regional markets, marking the entry of organized retail. Today, India is becoming increasingly appealing to international retail players due to its diverse population and untapped opportunities.
