Neglecting social norms can lead to negative consequences, including a loss of respect. Furthermore, losing self-respect can have a significant impact on the course of our lives; it requires effort to regain but provides life-changing benefits once achieved. The origin of humans' basic need for respect can be traced back to the primal belief in its significance. This belief stems from a small desert tribe that left individuals without respect to perish because they were deemed worthless. While it is possible to survive in modern times without respect, such as those who inherit wealth or have staff and employees, they may not necessarily earn any genuine respect despite receiving constant attention from salespeople.
Although possessing a valuable skill such as basketball dunking can bring financial gain, it does not equate to being esteemed by others. Respect has an innate worth that cannot be purchased with money. Personal choices often hinge on whether genuine respect is fel
towards another individual, even if their life is not at stake. The presence or lack of respect can greatly influence decision-making for everyone, regardless of their position and wealth. In fact, the quest for riches and authority may stem from a desire to attain the respect they have never truly received.
Voluntary cooperation from others is gained through respect, resulting in less need for expending energy and resources to satisfy our needs. Reduced conflict occurs when mutual respect is present, and in my perspective, respect must be earned.
By considering an individual's feelings, needs, and thoughts, one can voluntarily earn their respect. Respect operates like a boomerang, as it must be given before it can be received. While some believe respect can be forced, it cannot be demanded. Although the concepts of respecting a baby and an adult differ, they share common ground in voluntarily assisting with their requirements.
Respecting the needs of both infants and adults is essential. Meeting a baby's hunger at any hour, such as 3 AM, without hesitation demonstrates this respect. Additionally, willingly listening to an adolescent or adult who needs someone to talk to shows respect. Attentive listening is critical in conveying respect, including making eye contact and repeating some of their words when they share stories.
Fear has a negative impact on individuals, causing harm and toxicity. Conversely, respect is advantageous and fosters growth. Fear can erode an individual's sense of self-assurance, whereas respect cultivates it.
Life is endangered by fear whereas life is improved by respect. Fear is a compulsion but respect is to be merited. Fear is acquired through teachings.
