In the 1800's, however, recreation clubs were founded in England by churches and schools for leisure. In 1863 a standardized set of rules and regulations marked the movement from folk to popular culture. This was when countries like the Netherlands, Russia, and Spain began to implement the sport. Then later on soccer became televised, further diffusing the sport.
