Shrek is a animated fairytale about an ogre. Once upon a time in a swamp far away there lived an ogre named shrek (mike Myers). Shrek loved his privacy and would do anything to be left alone!
One day he lost all of his privacy because ha had become bombarded with fairytale creatures, which Lord Farquaad had dumped on his land.
Determined to get his land back shrek and the donkey (Eddie Murphy) went to dunloc lord Farquaads castle. Farquaad sent shrek and the donkey on a quest to rescue princess Fiona from the heavily guarded castle in which she was trapped. Shrek rescued the princess and falls in love mean while Fiona has a dark secret she wants to reveal. Shrek over hears part of the conversation that the donkey and Fiona have and he gets the wrong
...idea. Shrek goes off in a huff and returns with Fiona's new groom lord farquaad. When shrek finally comes to his senses he stops the wedding and declares his love for Fiona she loved shrek back and then Fiona revealed her true form as an ogre. Then the dragon ate farquaad. Shrek and Fiona lived happily ever after. William Steig bases Shrek on the children's novel. Shrek has a u certificate "u"
Shrek has several messages, one of which is don't judge by appearances. Shrek sees himself as a big fat ugly green ogre and often refers himself to an onion. Onions have layers like ogres. This shows he has low self-esteem.
Princess Fiona turns out to be an ogre and is too afraid to tell shrek. This tells us that she is self-conscious and is too bothered about wha
others think about her. There is also a talking donkey that goes by the name of donkey. He is not that bright and always sees the bright side of things. He is confidant and always loves to talk and cheer people up. In the film we see a dragon that was guarding the castle that princess Fiona was trapped in. Donkey gets trapped by the dragon but later learns that it is a female dragon. The dragon ends up falling in love with the donkey.
Another message is about friendship and how important it is for example shrek and the donkey. At first donkey invaded shreks privacy and shrek doesn't like donkey at all. But eventually they put their differences aside and learn to live with each other. We also learn that friends should forgive each other as we see in the film people should always forgive each other because you may not know the whole story. In the film shrek over hears part of the conversation and gets the wrong idea.
Bullying is something else we learn about in the film and hopefully we realise that it is a bad thing. We see lord Farquaad bullies shrek himself just because he is an ogre. Lord farquaad also bullies the fairytale creatures and pulls off the gingerbread man legs. I think this shows that farquaad is small and feels that if he can bully people then he feels like people are looking up to him.
The film also shows us that good triumph over evil, although this is not always the case in real life. In the film we see that in the end lord farquaad gets eaten
by the dragon that has fallen in love with the donkey, meanwhile Fiona takes her true form and they all live happily ever after. But the tale is not over there because there is a shrek two coming out soon.
Shrek is obviously the main character. He always seems tough but on the inside he is really quite sensitive. As we see in the film shrek could defeat any army but he shows his true side when he realises him love for Fiona. When he decides to confront Fiona it is then when he only hears part of their conversation and turns into big macho shrek again. But later on in the film shrek crashes Fiona and farquaads wedding and reveals all his true emotions. In the film shrek likes his privacy and always acts like the world is against him. But I think he really is lonely because he has no one to talk to and no one show his emotions to.
Donkey is a great character because he is loyal. He sticks by shrek even though shrek finds him irritating and wants him to leave but in the end shrek falls for donkeys charm and they become best friends. He is very determined and he shows this by taking half the swamp because he helped rescue the princess as well. Donkey is also quick witted because he can make a joke out of any situation.
Lord farquaad is a powerful figure but I think he is rather sad. He is a sad little lonely character who is made fun of by the fairytale creatures and by shrek himself. The ginger bread man joked about the muffin
man down brewery lane. Shrek also said that he was compensating for something because he was so small and everything in duloc is really big. He also doesn't have any true friends. All his friends were false because he had boards showing them which emotions to use. This shows that he did not let them show their true emotion because they did not really like him. Lord farquad is very cruel and determined. As we see in the film he torches the ginger bread man into telling him stuff. He doesn't think about talking to him first but he try's to show that he is macho and cannot be defeated.
At first the princess turns out to be a typical princess because she is very pretty and was waiting to be rescued by her gallant knight. However she turns out to be far from typical because she can fight as we see in the film she had a matrix style fight with Robin Hood. She can burp twice as loud as shrek. As we see in the film shrek burps accidentally and donkey give his some grief. But moment's later princess Fiona does a burp that was twice as loud. Princess Fiona also turns into an ogre at night. As we see in the film donkey walks in on Fiona hiding and to his surprise he finds an ogre. At first he thought in was shrek and that he had eaten her. But later discovered that an evil witch had cast a spell on Fiona. Every night she turned into an ogre but the spell can only be broken by loves true kiss.
The message in the
film is conveyed through these characters and their actions. I thought the film shrek was funny and yet it had a serious massage init. I went to the cinema to see this film and when it had finished I thought to myself that I would definitely buy this film when it comes out. I have this film on DVD and I watch it quite a lot. This was an excellent comedy drama that made me laugh on a number of occasions. I can't wait for shrek 2 to come out and I hope it is has as much energy and fun ness as the first. My favourite part of the film was when shrek was taking princess Fiona to her knew kingdom duloc. This film was fun packed and I think that it did get the message of bullying across.
