Evidently, he appears to have just come from the barber's shop sporting a new fade haircut. There may be a wave cap concealed under his athletic hat, topped with a crisp shirt layered over freshly-cleaned undershirt. He dons immaculate designer shoes. Yet, when he does an about-face, all his painstaking efforts to appear fashionable fall apart.
The design, brand name, and the elastic of his boxers were visible beneath his sagging pants, which were pulled up over his shirt. As he walked in a slow, measured pace, he was frequently required to pull up his trousers to prevent them from falling down completely. Sagging actually originated in prisons, as detainees were prohibited from wearing belts due to safety concerns
...since they could be potentially used for suicide or to harm others. Consequently, their baggy pants would inevitably sag, typically sitting halfway down their buttocks or sometimes even dropping to the ground.
Incarceration centers have been rife with speculations that sagging was associated with homosexuality. Typically, it was believed that only those yearning for sexual interaction, given their prolonged confinement, would indulge in sagging. Lately, many states across the US, including California, New York, Massachusetts, Georgia, and Florida, have characterized sagging pants as an illegal action. Numerous cities are apprehending males whose trousers drop below their buttocks. This prevailing fad amongst young men involves consequences like paying a hefty fine of $500 or undergoing imprisonment for a six-month term.
Jamarcus Marshall, a 17-year-old high school studen
from Brooklyn, shares his views about the prevalent fashion trend among young people. He firmly states that "It should be up to the person wearing their trousers how they want to wear them." Further, he acknowledges that "No one should question the choice of sagging pants since it has become a fashion norm over time," according to Jamarcus Marshall. This style, unfortunately, often exposes onlookers to the sight of young men's underwear because these individuals have adopted an unconventional walk to prevent their trousers from sliding down to their knees.
A local inhabitant of Piscataway, James Luthuli, condemns the youth who act disrespectfully towards themselves and others. He believes underwear is not meant to be displayed, hence the term 'under'. When queried about their 'sagging' attire, most young men associate it with influence from mass media and the aspiration to be trendy. Despite the fact that many parents permit their children to step out in public with their pants sagged to their knees, some disapprove of it considering it as a sign of disrespect to fellow individuals.
