There is a problem at Quantum software in Denver, Colorado. The founders, Stan Albright and Erin Barber, are in disagreement with the corporate attorney, Bill Carter. The disagreement is about the appropriateness of the company's sponsored social activities. These activities, known as beer busts, take place every Friday and are meant for all employees to relax and socialize after their long workdays. However, the corporate attorney is concerned about the potential risk of serving alcohol to employees as it could lead to accidents if anyone were to leave the premises and cause harm outside of work.

Drinking on the jobsite may result in disaster and make the company vulnerable to lawsuits, as someone would be held responsible and penalties could be imposed. The issues in this matter can be categorized into two sets: macro and micro. The macro aspect includes problems suc

h as lack of leadership, inadequate resources that expose them to risk, and overall company infrastructure. On the other hand, the micro aspect involves violations of human resources policies and significant internal problems.

Consequently, due to the promotion of alcohol at work, Quantum would lack proper leadership and employee training. Moreover, the company would be held responsible for encouraging employees to drink. Moreover, the violation of the last micro sub-category would be related to the organizational process. Despite these reasons, the founders of the company support TGIF's as a way for employees to relax and foster unity. In fact, during one of the beer busts, the company's corporate attorney observed an employee going too far and falling onto a table.

The main concern lies in the company's liability for tragedy, as they serve beer and have seen

intoxicated employees and managers together. This lack of professionalism could lead to small issues. The cause of this problem is clear. Quantum provides alcohol on work premises, making them responsible for any tragedy. Lawsuits could result in significant expenses as they could be brought against the company's insurance policy and cost millions of dollars. Simply driving away from the jobsite could result in someone's death due to a simple mistake.

Systems affected can include the entire company crashing. The beer bust TGIF’s is a perceived form of enjoyment that all employees participate in to relieve stress. Despite already working understaffed for 16 hours a day and 6 days a week, this has resulted in significant growth over the past 3 years, with sales reaching 95 million. If liability concerns eliminate these beer busts, the employees will have no social life whatsoever, leading to quick burnout from excessive work. Consequently, their performance will decline.

The negative impact of beer busts on individuals who cannot behave appropriately can be significant. These troublemakers have the potential to both create and destroy a company in court. Discontinuing these events without resolution can negatively affect their improved performance. To eliminate liabilities, there are several options that can be implemented: referring to these gatherings as company-provided rides or arranging for designated drivers to ensure employees reach home safely. Before being driven home, employees must be accompanied by a guardian at the front gate who will guide them to their respective drivers' vehicles.

To prevent any risks to the employees and dissociate itself from directly serving alcohol, Quantum Software can implement alternatives such as conducting breathalyzer tests to ensure sobriety. Another option is organizing beer

events at a nearby bar, shifting liability onto individuals. These measures allow employees to unwind while also preventing the company from being held accountable for any unfortunate incidents.

It is recommended that these beer busts should not be held on work premises, but rather in another location. In order to ensure safety and prevent any potential dangers, the company should provide free transportation and designated drivers for employees who are unable to pass the breathalyzer test. By implementing these measures, the beer busts would not pose a threat to society. Ultimately, it is recommended that these beer busts be conducted in a suitable location in order to remove any liability for Quantum. Making these changes will help prevent any possible legal disputes and allow the company to continue operating smoothly.
