In round 1 of Littlefield Technologies, our approach differed from round 2. Initially, we lacked a clear plan, unlike in round 2 where we formulated multiple strategies. It became evident from the start that station 2 necessitated an additional machine to handle the concurrent processing from stations one and three. Upon assuming control of the factory, we promptly procured a machine for station 2. Reflecting on this decision, it could have been risky had we unintentionally purchased the machine intended for another station.
Fortunately, station 2 turned out to be the right choice as the queues at both station 2 and 3 started to decrease, resulting in more jobs being completed each day. We continued monitoring the game for a few days without making any significant changes, except for adjusting the pri
...ority of station two based on the workload at stations 2 and 3. However, despite adding another machine, we encountered a challenging situation where a bottleneck formed at station 1, leading to a decline in our daily revenue. At this point, we began to hesitate about purchasing another machine for station 1 due to concerns about not recovering our investment.
To ensure safety, we continued monitoring the queues. However, this approach did not work as we stayed in last place for several days. Feeling desperate, we were determined to find a solution. Mark eventually suggested a more proactive approach - buying another machine for station 1. Since we were already in last place, the rest of us agreed with hopes of improvement. With fingers crossed, we went ahead with the purchase and saw immediate results - the bottleneck at station
1 was resolved and utilization decreased.
Despite initially earning less money than the other two teams, we closely monitored both the factory and our competitors. Mark and I consistently had the game running at work, while I dedicated an hour before bedtime to watch it. Our shared obsession with the game was relentless. Eventually, our dedication paid off as we ultimately secured first place. This achievement brought immense satisfaction, particularly considering the prior frustration of fearing a last-place finish.
