Culture is a composite of many factors that project the shared values of the people who work in a firm. Thus, the way an employer behaves his/her employees will be similar to the way the employees will behave the customers. In order to achieve this, there are some subtle behaviors that can send the most powerful messages to the customers. These involve the prompt initiation of the conversation, verbal greeting, getting customer committed which are all to welcome the customer as a guest.

Secondly, the environmental elements that affect listening involve the listening capacity of the customer, the state of having noisy environment, and the use or misuse of gatekeepers. For instance, the customer rep can speak 3 minutes without stopping, and the customer can come off the conversation after some time. SO knowing when to stop and when to listen is also important. The final elements that interfere the listening process are the interactional elements such as international physiological processes that are difficult to define.

One of such situation includes self-centeredness, which refers to the habit of turning things and situations so that you are in the center of attention. This can cause the customer to get pissed by the way the customer rep on the phone speaks. Another one is the self-protection, which refers to the way you think, dress, and walk.
