on. Heidi Ganahl wanted to grow her business and as a result started franchising. She had to evolve with the company as a leader because she was now dealing with over 200 businesses. The replication and duplication that comes with a franchise is the important part of that type of business.

She still wanted to get ideas and feedback from the companies while maintaining the consistency of the brand. Heidi adopted an open door policy to the team members and gives them a chance to voice their suggestions and ideas. The technology, economic conditions, labor conditions and the expectations of our culture play a part in the leadership process. The customer expects to have the same services every time they visit the camp regardless of location. The leadership that CEO Heidi Ganahl gives her teams the ability and opportunity to set, pursue, and attain their goals. Her philosophy and style of leadership has awarded her a very successful franchise business. 2. In what way is Heidi Ganahl leadership charismatic and visionary? Give examples. Visionary leadership is meant to motivate and provide direction for the members of the company. The lanning and goal setting for the future provide motivation to move forward to gain success. In Heidi’s case she is very clear about what direction she wants her business go. The policy concerning the commitment, follow-through, and execution of that vision is specific. She provides the planning and motivation for the team and gives milestones that she expects to be met along the way. Charismatic leaders have strong, confident, dynamic personalities that attract followers which enables them to form strong bonds and relationships.

The charismatic leader can motivate others to commit and work harder to make the business successful. The ethical charismatics are open to suggestions and are willing to do what it takes. The owner Sue says that the passion and excitement that she sees in Heidi gets her excited and motivated to do well also. She has an open door policy and she lets them communicate their ideas, with the understanding that what is best for the animals and the business has to come first. The franchisee Sue describes Heidi as a strong business woman with a personal approach to her business.

Heidi has succeeded in getting her team to be

supportive and committed to the company. They can see that accepting the purpose and vision that good things will happen. The whole team is satisfied, committed, and strives to do their best to make the business a success. 3. Where does Heidi Ganahl's leadership fall on the Leadership Grid discussed in the chapter? Explain The leadership grid has five different styles that are ranked according to their concern for production and concern for people.

The leadership style that Heidi Ganahl falls into on this grid would be the middle-of-the-road style. This style gives a 5 on the leaders concern for production and a 5 on their concern for people. This management style balance’s work and people so that the morale is high and the work gets done. The ability to maintain this balance while keeping everyone happy and productive takes commitment from the leader. Heidi stated that she has a lot of family and friends in the business but that line has to be there in order to continue her success and theirs.

The middle-of –the road style allows the leader to have a moderate amount of concern for both the people and production. She knows that to be successful there must be policies, and regulations in place and not all of her friends or employees are as dedicated as she is. That is what her leadership role is intended to do, get everyone on the same boat and rowing the same direction and speed, The continuation of her style and leadership qualities’ will keep her business and her friends satisfied and wanting to do more
