him to eat more. As suggested by the books title, Born Round, Bruni shape may have lowered his self-love. It may be argued that, being “round” a shape that no human being is proud of, made Bruni hate himself.

Bruni has a high love for food which he does not feel comfortable about hence does not accept himself. For instance, he is frustrated by his excess eating behavior which he has no control. He thus responds to this disorder by forced vomiting to compensate his overeating behavior. Additionally, he developed compensatory behaviors to reduce his wait, clear indication that he did not love his body and shape. According to Bruni (189), he would swim and do rigorous exercise and carry extra 10 pounds whenever he walked to help reduce his weight. He was not fat but obese and believed once a fat child forever a fat child, a fact he was not happy about.

Most important, how Bruni is treated by his family eroded all the trust he had for others. He to some extend developed personal hatred against his mother. His relationship with his mother was one of ferocious tenderness (Bruni 221. During his struggles with cancer he was abandoned. He needed a person to be near him, a person who was not afraid of his condition and was ready to know his progress. In a far corner of a back hallway in an unfamiliar basement, I pressed the heels of my hands against my eyes… (Bruni 277). Frank was very lonely during his sickness and as a result, he would not trust anyone perhaps because he believed people hated him due to his high liking

for food, huge body and round shape. This hatred may have advanced, making him anti-social hindering his ability to date.

Arguing from a different standpoint, Bruni’s intimate life was continuously unsatisfying since he could neither have a relationship his family members nor teachers. His first love was stomach because he was not able to balance his desire for food and family love. To him, food came first. Much of his time was consumed by eating since he would eat and force vomit in order to eat again. In addition, due to his eating habit, Frank spend much of his time in overeating compensation behavior. He was either eating, voting or exercising in a bid to cut weight which was increasing at an alarming rate. Frank was also mentally tortured by her state, perhaps keeping constantly under stress. He illustrates the dangers of food and how danger of food deprive of joy of life. Evidently, he argued that to him food was a vehicle for life pleasures, a vehicle that he sometime drove at a dangerous speed that ended him in a ditch along the road. This statement depicts his inability to control eating when it was at dangerous level hence source of frustration.

To sum up, despite the fact that food is as a vehicle to joy of life it is sometimes source of life frustrations. As clearly depicted in Born Round Bruni’s eating disorder has denied him joy of life. His high weight, round shape were a consequence of his eating habits. The fact that Bruni is trying to shun his bulimic disorder shows that he was not happy about this condition.
