The primary goal of An Inconvenient Truth is to motivate individuals to take action against global warming, rather than presenting itself as a political movie. It does not demand viewers to hold a favorable opinion of or trust Al Gore, or even accept his assertions. Nevertheless, it is highly probable that they will encounter something startling during the film. Despite inadvertently focusing on Gore, the film's true intention surpasses his personal representation.
The evidence presented in An Inconvenient Truth is unquestionably clear by the end. Gore and multiple researchers have sounded the alarm, leaving us to wonder what actions we can take and how quickly we can implement them. Gore uses a power-point presentation to display impactful images, including a graph depicting the soaring levels of CO2 emissions, before-and-after photos showing the depletion of Mount Kilimanjaro's glaciers, a shrin
...king Aral Sea, and computer-generated projections of flooded cities like Calcutta and Beijing that would result in millions of environmental refugees. Additionally, Gore highlights that melting ice caps would eliminate the possibility of constructing the World Trade Center memorial site due to rising sea levels. While the video suggests ways society can reduce energy waste and pollution during its closing credits, it neglects to address corporate wastefulness such as leaving office lights on or excessive product packaging.
"Gore argues that although we should not pit the economy against the environment, we should not let the worst offenders escape accountability. How about considering consumer boycotts? And what kind of jobs can we generate in a society that relies less on fossil fuels?" (Gibson) An Inconvenient Truth may have a flaw in its tendency to be somewhat self-important. The director incorporate
parts of Gore's biography that are relevant to his long-standing interest in environmentalism, which can come across as excessive political adulation. However, some of this background information contributes to the film's strengths, such as highlighting Gore's son's near-death experience and his sister's death from lung cancer.
Gore acknowledges that his family farm in Tennessee continued to grow tobacco, despite the release of the Surgeon General's warning in 1964. This admission implies that Gore recognizes his personal involvement in a significant issue, which reinforces the credibility of his stance on global warming and our ethical duty to address it.
