Aaron Kupchik is an associate graduate and undergraduate professor in the department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at the University of Delaware. He handles courses on Sociology of Childhood, Juvenile Justice, Juvenile Delinquency, and Research Methods and Statistics. Kupchik is a respected scholar in the field of Psychology where he acquired his bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1994. He obtained both his Master’s and Doctorate degree certificates from New York University in 2000 and 2003 respectively. To date, Kupchik has published books, articles and journals focusing mainly on different aspects of juvenile justice such as punishment of youth in schools courts and correctional facilities. This essay looks at the main research method Kupchik used when he was working on his book, “Homeroom Security: School Discipline in an Age of Fear.”

objective Aaron Kupchik had for his research was to determine the problems with the then school disciplinary policies. He conducted his research in four high schools, two of them in the Mid-Atlantic and the other two from the South West. His intention was to get the point of view from all the stakeholders involved in the school system, which are; the students, teachers, parents and the security officers. In his approach, Kupchik interviewed teachers and the security officers, but his main target was the students because their opinions were not normally sought when it came to disciplinary issues at school. He was also interested in comparing how class and social background influenced disciplinary approach in American schools.
