The Three Most Important Knowledge Areas:project Integration Management
This knowledge area encompasses all the features needed to conduct, implement, and execute the trade show exhibition of LRH Products. Integration encompasses the necessary procedures to harmonize the different aspects of the project and align them with various functions and purposes. By leveraging this knowledge area, a detailed plan for the project will be designed and developed. It will outline the course of action, as well as provide guidance for project direction, management, monitoring, and controlling change. This knowledge area helps identify potential compromises and support systems that will mitigate any challenges encountered during the trade show.
The logistics for the trade show are mostly in place. Stocked printed collaterals will be used for the show. However, updates are needed for the presentations, and crew members need to
...be designated and trained for the trade show. In addition to these preparations, giveaways and clothing for the crew need to be purchased. Arrangements also need to be made for transporting the show materials and ensuring proper travel arrangements for the crew.
It is through knowledge of integration that all of these factors will be orchestrated. Project Scope Management: The trade show project for LRH products is very specific. Therefore, applying the knowledge of project scope management will ensure that the trade show includes only relevant work and logistics. This knowledge area creates work breakdown structures, plans the pertinent work for the trade show, and verifies and controls the application of specific project features. The trade show requires defined product information materials, processes, and a designated and trained crew. Additionally, project scope management weeds out unnecessary factors such as entertainment. This
knowledge area immediately harnesses the trade show's pertinent needs and requirements. Project Timemanagement: With specific time parameters and schedule for the trade show, applying knowledge of project time management ensures efficient execution of exhibiting LRH products. This knowledge area creates a specific timetable, sequences events and activities in preparation for the trade show in a logical and proper manner.The management and control of time is crucial for ensuring the success of the trade show project. This includes estimating the duration of each activity and creating a plan to handle unforeseen obstacles. Factors such as the trade show schedule, delivery time for LRH product materials, and allowable work hours for the project must be taken into account and managed effectively. By properly managing project time, the trade show can be executed efficiently and productively. However, neglecting to apply knowledge in areas such as integration can weaken the factors involved. For instance, revising the presentation must consider the limited time that Pat can contribute, as she is scheduled to go on leave one month before the trade show. Therefore, immediate action is required in working with Pat to complete the revision within 30 calendar days from the start of the process, taking into consideration that all trade show materials must be delivered ten days prior to the show.
The assistance of Pat, who has good product knowledge, is essential in revising the presentation as the project manager's knowledge of LRH is just starting. Failure to integrate the project proponent's circumstances with Pat's may result in a failure to revise the presentation. Additionally, without applying scope management, the project will waste resources, time, and money. Considering the limitations of
Pat and Terry's contributions, the project manager must focus their activities on tasks they are capable of handling: Pat revising the presentation and Terry ordering giveaways for the trade show.The project manager needs to utilize Pat's help in selecting and training the sales staff for the show, while also respecting their work-hour limitation. Similarly, Terry should not be tasked with travel arrangements due to their focus on giveaways. Once it is time to train the staff, travel arrangements can be handled appropriately. Neglecting project time management will result in chaos during trade show preparation and the show itself. Failure to monitor timetables and schedules will lead to overlapping activities. The project manager must consider the limited work hours of Pat and Terry when determining their involvement. Effective time management will maximize their contributions to the trade show preparation.
