A group of approximately twenty-six Mexican men, known as "walkers", courageously embarked on a perilous voyage through a fatal desert towards the United States. Their guide and companion, Jesus Mendez, also referred to as a "coyote", was compensated for leading them. Tragically, fourteen individuals lost their lives during this expedition, leaving Mendez with twelve survivors. While Mendez faced accusations and a 16-year prison term for manslaughter, it could be argued that the walkers were fully aware of the risks associated with their decision to undertake this journey. As such, one might question whether it was fair to hold Mendez accountable for their deaths and charge him with manslaughter.
Mendez empathized with the walkers' circumstances. For instance, the walkers desired to cross the border in search of employment opportunities
...to provide financial support for their families back home, facilitate their children's education, and secure an improved living situation. The walkers' packet includes Enrique as one of the stakeholders, who aims to secure employment to afford his son's schooling. Numerous walkers are willing to risk their lives solely for the welfare of their loved ones. Additionally, Don Moi is recognized as another stakeholder in this context.
He should be the one who is responsible for the fourteen men (walkers) because he is the one who the walkers were depending on. And the walkers have no clue how to cross the border with any types of techniques. Don Moi is a coyote and hustler. He is the one that has to guide the walkers to cross the border, the Coyote packet states, "Don Moi made it clear that he couldn't be responsible." He should be responsible
for all of the walkers that had died.
