It is fair to say that we live in a world of hatred, wars, terrorism, and murder, however, how we can hold accountable one Man for all these unspeakable actions? God can change everyone’s personality so that we can not sin, except then we would not have free will.
As well He can compensate for the world's evil actions, but then there would be no consequences. The Lord can remove those who commit evil acts, which may seem like a grand idea, in spite of this though there would be no one left, for we all sin. I will address the court today with persuasive evidence to prove why God is not accountable for this charge.
In the first instance, God changing all of our minds only
...to act out on positive thoughts, would not allow us to choose right or wrong because we would be programmed to only do right.
Had God chosen to do this, there would be no meaningful relationships between Him and His creation. In the novel Disappointment With God Philip Yancey questions this theory from God’s perspective, “If I introduce freedom into this universe, I take the risk of introducing evil into it as well, for if they are free, then they are free to deviate from my will” (Yancey 58).
We live in a real-world where we can choose our own actions and even though God knew that this could create havoc, He was generous enough to allow this luxury. Blaming God is just the easy way out or just a quick answer to our problems. There is nothing I a
more grateful for than my free will. There would not be much of a life without it.
Therefore does God allow bad things to happen? Yes. But why? Because He has to in order to keep His promise of free will. God does not make bad things happen, people do.
As Philip Yancey says, God is not one to “I don’t believe that an earthquake that kills thousands of innocent victims without reason is an act of God. It is an act of nature” (Kushner 59). , “The solution to sin is not to impose an ever-stricter code of behavior. It is to know God” (Yancey).
