What is culture shock?
Cultural shock is experienced when a person moves to a new location or region where strange cultures are practiced (McInnes, 2012). In essence, it might be explained as the lack of comfort or the confusion that occurs when one moves to a new environment with different practices.
Have you ever experience it?
I have ever experienced culture shock when I went to China and experienced culture shock because I was a foreigner. I was feeling uneasy and very uncomfortable because I did not know the Chinese culture. Further, I felt that I needed guidance in every activity I undertook because I was in a different environment. The food, clothing and even the building were all very different from the western style I am used to and this confused me more.
Summarize the negotiation style of any ‘ONE’ country of your choice
... trong> The negotiation style for the Chinese entails discussing and judging as the key elements. The essence of negotiation in the Chinese culture is to build trust which is done through dialogue as well as evaluating or judging the other party (Chen, 2004). The most interesting aspect about the Chinese culture is that they carryout negotiations for long-term working relationships and not just for a limited time. This negotiation is also critical in problem solving within the Chinese culture. Further, it is important to note that the Chinese negotiation style is dynamic and encompasses practical issues as well as context. However, this is only preferred by the Chinese simply because of the influence of the western style of negotiations especially when reaching contract-based absolutes. When comparing the perception of the Chinese and Americans towards each other’s
negotiation style, the Americans perceive the Chinese as dishonest and vague while the Chinese see the Americans as impersonal and only focused on the short-term gains.
