are another beautiful phenomena in my opinion. If you have never seen the storms, you may think that I am crazy, but they are frankly awesome forces of nature that are spectacular to look at and should be appreciated.

There are other many areas of Texas that are worth noting. Big Bend National Park located on the border with Mexico is a home to 1200 species of plants, 450 species of birds 56 reptile species and 75 species of mammals.(Big Bend National Park, February 2016). Palo Duro Canyon is also an undiscovered gem in Texas, and there are some mountains at the border with the New Mexico.

Additionally, there are other cultural things and strange fact that are unique to Texas. American Football is an immensely crucial part of the Texas Culture. It is like religion in this part. Both large cities and small towns take part in American Football. The show Friday Night Lights is an excellent illustration. People say that on most Friday nights, most of the population in Texas is watching a high school football game. NFL and college football are also popular. Texas occupies awesome hamburger chains. Five Guys reached Texas from the north and Out Burger from the west. Whataburger has consistently been in Texas. You will find all of them next to each other in some parts of Texas.

Another fact about Texas is that it is huge. We can equate it to another whole country. Many Texas residents live and die there without stepping foot outside the state. The Music in Texas is also enjoyable. Like other states in The United States of America, outside of the major cities the only

radio options are either Country music or something Spanish language, which is probably Spanish language country music, for all I know, Police give out a ton of speeding tickets. Texas cities dominate the lists of cities with the most speed traps. Houston, in particular, is number one by a huge margin. On the flip side, the speed limits on some roads are quite high, 80 on parts of the I-10. Texas police have a reputation for strictness. A common greeting is a two-finger wave. Generally, this is exchanged between drivers going the opposite direction on a small two-lane highway somewhere.

Texas is dotted with small towns. Most of the cities that I have personally visited are organized around a central square, which is the analog of downtown, and they usually have an ancient but beautiful building in the very center, perhaps city hall or a courthouse. There are many small towns with something unique about them, but my favorite thing hands down about the small towns in Texas is the food, especially the barbecue. The term barbecue means different things to people around the United States and around the world. In Texas, it is a particular genre of food and not just a grill with hot dogs and hamburgers. I don't know if every town in Texas is blessed with amazing barbecue, but the towns near Austin certainly are. Elgin, Bastrop, Luling, Lockhart, and Driftwood are all towns near Austin that have awesome barbecue. Texas barbecue is known for two things in my opinion. The first is the Brisket. I hated Brisket until I lived in Texas but now Brisket is generally my favorite barbecue item

(most people have their brisk preference).

The second unique thing is that Texas barbecue is usually served sauceless, which might be viewed as a disadvantage. In the small town food department, I must also mention the city of West, which is halfway between Dallas and Austin and is a town founded primarily by Czech immigrants. West is one of the centers for the production of Kolaches, which are a food item that as far as I can tell is unique to the Czech Republic and Texas. Kolaches (at least the Texas version) are sort of like really fancy pigs in blankets. There are also sweet versions.

Food is amazingly good in Texas: cheap, and amazingly bad for you. But you can eat a full meal with a drink for $5 at many Mexican restaurants. This is almost impossible elsewhere.
Texas has been very friendly, welcoming and surprisingly tolerant. Texas is an amazing place and you should definitely visit if you have the chance.
