Every generation holds a minority group that vocally fights for change. For instance, today there is always a new story on the struggle for minority group’s rights. Either it's always about tax equality, the right of marrying, or military service. 102 years ago, an even greater portion of the then population consistently made efforts to have their voices heard: the women. Women have always played the vital role in all societies. They nurture family life within homes, fight in revolutionary politics and show constant bravery with regards to the world’s adversity. Compared to the woman of 1914, the modern woman has gained independence, can now work and hold a high ranking position in society, but still, the society’s perception of a traditional role of a woman does not seem to change in any way.
Back in 1
...914, women had limited opportunities than today. The only obvious thing allowed for women was to become homemakers. On the other hand, men worked and earned money. The women were expected to devote their entire lives to their men. The place of a woman in the society was not the workplace, but rather at home. Today’s modern era has seen women move out their homes into the workplace. They have taken over paid jobs. Surprisingly, women tend to make up nearly half of the American workforce. Furthermore, there are a good number of high-profile women in the chief executive positions. Women in the two societies were treated differently both at the political and social arena. All women of 1914, regardless of their social class, were considered to be second-class citizens. The fact was underlined by a denial for them t
participate in a parliamentary vote.
On the other hand, they were encouraged to strive in serving others and consider their interests behind those of their men. Today women seem to hold nearly twenty percent of political seats and state-level elective positions. Despite being regarded below the recommended standards, it is a significant milestone as compared to 1914. A greater difference also emerges in education. Largely because of the traditional expectations put on women, very few of them had the opportunities for education. The ones who were lucky to attend state elementary schools accessed a limited curriculum. In today’s society, more women enroll in educational programs as compared to men. A majority of them complete these programs having earned a diploma or degree. Every society has its perception of the female figure. In 1914, people the society believed that women had to express perfect physical appearance. They had to focus more on beauty and hygiene. They were not expected to make decisions concerning finances, purchases, politics, and education. Instead, the males made such decisions for them.
However, things are now different. The society focuses more on the intelligence and inner beauty of women. Women are viewed by good morals ant the purity of their hearts. Besides, today’s woman makes her social choices and has more freedom than in 1914. Overall, the role of women today and in 1914 is quite similar. However, the significant difference lies in the desire and push for change in 1914 than there is today. Despite the existence of hindrances, the great transition paints a picture of the bravery, endurance, and sacrifice shown by women from 1914 to today. Women may still not be
equal in all aspects, but they have considerably progressed from the miserable experiences of over a hundred years ago.
