Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin had a significant impact on the perception of slavery in the early 19th century. Abraham Lincoln acknowledged the book as a catalyst for the American Civil War and famously greeted Stowe with, "So this is the little lady who made this big war." The novel depicted both real and fictional instances of slavery, including brutal whippings and unjust treatment of slaves. After its release, countless individuals from Northern states were motivated to support abolitionist efforts.
