Moreover, diverting engineers from other projects to work on the redesign could negatively impact future products and market growth in specific car sectors. In my opinion, Kumara should opt for a cost-effective approach and focus on increasing the engine displacement. This would ensure that the Today model is ready in time and maintain Honda's image. Therefore, it would be best for Kumara to keep the car unchanged and invest in minor tooling changes necessary for developing the engine with ICC, as this approach proves to be the most cost-effective option, considering the already substantial investment of over 5 billion in the current Today model.
Although this may deviate from Honda's traditional approach, it can be considered an enhanced version of the current ICC model rather than a completely new design. If you observe Honda's current range of cars, you'll notice that many of them come with various engine sizes, despite being based on the same design (Exhibit B). While increasing the engine size to 660 cubic centimeters may reduce fuel efficiency, a key concern for today's buyers, it will also boost the
car's horsepower (Exhibit 8). This could serve as a selling point for customers who seek a heightened driving experience.
