Test Cricket is the longest format of the sport.
For some, One Day International Cricket is more appealing, whereas for others, Test cricket represents the ultimate challenge of skill and stamina in this sport. The name 'test cricket' aptly reflects how this game truly measures the players' capability and resilience. The first Test match took place on March 15, 1877, between Australia and England in Melbourne, Australia.
Australia emerged victorious in two significant cricket matches played in Melbourne. The first of these matches was held in 1877 to mark the completion of 100 years of test cricket. The second match was played on March 12-17, 1977 also in Melbourne and coincided with the centenary celebrations. Once again, Australia won this match with a similar margin as the first match held in 1877.
Test cricket
...is a form of first-class cricket that involves matches between national teams with assigned "test status" from the International Cricket Council (ICC). The matches consist of innings where one team bats and the other bowls.
Typically, four innings are played during most test matches, allowing each team two opportunities to bat and bowl. To determine which team bats first, a coin toss is conducted, usually by the home captain. The visiting captain will call either ‘heads’ or ‘tails’, and the winning captain will choose whether to bat or bowl first.
Therefore, he is granted the privilege of selecting between the pair of actions within the game. In 'Test' cricket, the team that opts to bat initially is commonly known as 'Team A' while the team that chooses to bowl first is identified as 'Team B'. After the conclusion of
the innings, each team generally takes turns. As a result, Team A will commence bowling at the conclusion of an innings and Team B will begin to bat. The identical sequence is typically duplicated for Team B following the completion of their innings.
To determine the outcome, the total runs scored by a team in both innings are added and compared to the second team. On April 13, 2004, the highest ever individual test innings was played between West Indies and England. This match is memorable because Brian Lara scored 400 runs, surpassing the previous record of Matthew Hayden who had scored 380 runs in a test between Australia and Zimbabwe in 2003.
