What is Topology?
Topology is the mathematical study of the properties of spaces that remain unchanged when they are subject to certain transformations. For example topological questions may include: what paths can an object take from one point to another; which shapes are deformable into other shapes without tearing or stretching; how many dimensions does this object have? Topology also looks at objects from different perspectives such as orientation-preserving homeomorphism or knot theory.
